If indeed you are at work.

I hear the sound of a fan and The Pop Group on my ipod. I have a half-full cup of Caffe Trieste coffee.

Jared is on the other side of the divider from me, probably reading conservative blogs or looking at someone's Livejournal.

Down the hall, Jackie is using the envelope-opening machine and Forrest is entering something into a spreadsheet and listening to Portastatic (probably). Michael is not in his office because he is in a meeting downstairs.

I am waiting to start monthend. When I do, I will listen to Laser Guided Melodies. Kati and Karen have just finished discussing how the idiocy of a consultant has resulted in fees not being applied properly, and are now talking about our other colleague who has the mumps.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I am listening to Blaine Reininger and finishing up a bit of coffee. I hear a book truck being wheeled over to ILL; beyond that it's pretty quiet, though it sounds like Kirk is going through some files and Deborah is typing away at something.

I've just ended a update-type meeting with my boss. We're the only two in here. I hear nothing but the hum of the ventilation. I'm about to put on Hip Hop Nation and get to work embedding a video on a site.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I can hear the noon bells at First Methodist a couple of blocks away. No music playing here. One of the cats is lurking around my desk. I just got a call from the boss lady with final changes on two ads to be sent to another publication. I will now create press-ready PDFs, if God wills it to be so.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Now Jared is asking me about Gordon Brown. I have finished the coffee and am trying to follow printed instructions for formatting this Access file.

Almost the entire Board, including the owner are standing behind me gossiping about something, but I've got my headphones on and can't hear them.

I can hear the construction people talking in the hallway and a phone ringing in the office next door. I am eating a salad comprised of spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, red peppers, jalepenos, and wasabi peas. My boss is at a meeting so I'm all alone in my "office" which doesn't have any windows. In a few minutes I will most likely look at some job listings online. I need out.

ENBB, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I am finishing up a cup of coffee. It is quiet in here today as my office mate is (somewhat thankfully) on convention duty, so I'm not being asked incessant questions. It's lunchtime so the place is deadly still--everyone's out, I guess? The a/c is kind of making an annoying wooshing noise, should do something about that.

That's what's on my talk radio station right now. Other than that, nothing. No one's in the hall. I don't hear any phones ringing. I'm just sitting here in my office, eating trail mix.

In a minute, I will use the bathroom and get paid for it.

The Pop Group on my ipod

okay that's unnerving as i just played half of y.

i am slowly working on a cover story and dicking around on ilx. my officemate is reading comic book message boards, as it is tuesday and there's nothing for him to copy edit. the interns are inputting club and bar information into the website's database. everyone else is either working or taking off as the issue is now out of the door and to the printers. i am thinking about getting a sandwich.

strongohulkington, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:27 (seventeen years ago) link

IMDb basically fucked up half of our companies' entries, so I am working on setting that right (to be fair they've been very good about it). Two of my bosses are having a conference call to my right, and I am just about to pack up and head home for the champions league semi.

Mark C, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:31 (seventeen years ago) link

My tea has gone from cooling to cold. I can hear bits of hard rock and commercials and dj voices through the partition from L's desk. S has just gotten in and is clicking away and occasionally humming and making those little generally pleased noises. People are sneezy this morning. R is madly typing (I suspect heavy backspace usage), but at least he is now quiet. He had an earlier terribly condescending and too loud phone call that had me kicking myself for forgetting the sound-occluding headphones. LT, who has the most annoying grating voice on the planet seems to be winding up. Lunch is an hour away; I will think of italian food now.

The air conditioner is turned up far too high, there is a pot of coffee on the warmer that has been there since approximately 10 am, I can almost hear one of the employee reviews in the conference room down the hall over the clicking of my typing this.

I have done a full-page full-color ad for an advertiser who's going out of town and wants to see their next ad early. I had to leave gaps for a couple of photos still to come, as soon as I find out who won the Futurity Steer Class at a particular show.

I'm trying to decide if the next project is installing a bathroom vanity, installing a ceiling fan, or computer maintenance.

I am quite possibly the only person around in any of the offices on this whole corridor at the moment. I am drinking coffee, listening to Ken Bruce on the radio, emailing a friend of mine attempting to offer him some long distance sympathy over his recent relationship break-up, surfing ebay and buying some sizzix dies for my cardmaking obsession, searching Freecycle to see if anyone is giving away anything interesting, reading some work emails and ILX, and filling in my expenses from last month. It's sunny outside, and through my window I can see a man on a tractor-mower cutting the grass of a football pitch.

I have work to do, but I'm not in the mood for it today.
