Cana da as seen by us.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 20 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mr Sub would whip Jared's flabby Ass so shut Yo mouth! FITE!

Mr Noodles, Wednesday, 20 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually when it comes to sub shops I'm a national traitor. Subway all the way.

Don't even get me going on the "Toronto episode" of the Simpsons last weekend. What an unimaginative series of raps on the Canuck noggin that was. Ooh burn. Not. Who's bland now?

Curling. Lots of yelling and broom sweeping. I don't get it myself.

Kim, Wednesday, 20 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I missed that episode, I hear it SuXoR though. Well either way, Subway (minus Jared who is recovering from his ass whipping) or Mr Sub (still stoked from his victory) are miles better then Cap'n Submarine.

Mr Sub under CCS is one of my favorite FAST places in the PATH to eat. Big fan of Thai Island and Flavours of India though. Bought my cubicle dwellers felt the same but they were smokers so its their problem.

Mr Noodles, Wednesday, 20 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, if it gives some sense of the sheer level of hoary old cliche involved here, the view from the CN Tower was depicted as rolling greenery and um... mountains. I shit you not. I don't even think a lot of the *Canadian* viewers under twenty were even going to get the veritably Precambrian era 'Take Off' musical gag.

Kim, Wednesday, 20 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Take Off, Its a beauty way to go!

Man, there were multiple copies of that album in my house. Ralph the chainsmoking dog with emphysima on an atmoic submarine. And beerhunter!!!
My brothers were proud participants in the first and I think only annual Bob And Doug McKenzie Day, where there was a parade down Young Street and much cooking of backbacon from flatbeds.
I could just be guilable in my young age though.

Mr Noodles, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I'm not denying the phenomenon that was Bob and Doug, I mean, who could, but American comedy writers using it as an all emcompassing Can-comedy crutch until the end of time really makes me p.o.'d. Mad enough to want a beer. A nice cold one. From the Elsinore brewery even.

Kim, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

According to the radio this morning, the whole of the UK has gone curling crazy following stirring victories over Germany and Canada.

I have yet to notice any evidence of this outside our front room. I have made an initial enquiry to the builders about installing an all- weather curling lane in our hallway.

Tim, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I must curl.

chris, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been to a curling rink in the highlands although i only skated round it

leigh, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i didnt understand why they shouted so much during the Curling though, i mean they were all BAWLING at each other! the best thing to come out of Canada though is BOARDS. of Canada. the new album is luuuuverly.

yes i know Boards of Canada are in fact Scottish, dont shatter my lovely illusion!

katie, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

All the kids wanna go a curling!

j>e>l, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are the BBC showing the ladies final tonight, and will it be on at the Calthorpe arms tonight? If not I will be leaving early.

FASTER FASTER FASTER FASTER

chris, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I haf played Curling. Bring it on with the broom.

Sarah, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It'd be cool if curling was like the WWF and they started hitting each other with the brooms. Well, maybe not.

j>e>l, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That would be more like hurling, J>E>L.

Tim, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You can only watch it on the BBC if you have a TV Licence you know Chris.

Pete, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thats included in my rent Pete, I'll see you later young man.

chris, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete thinks to himself that even if they don't get Chris for CT evasion, he may be working himself up for a GBH conviction later. Not really a consolation if Pete is the one being GBH-ed though.

(Don't mess with me, I'm a bouncer).

Pete, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Don't mess with me, I'm a bouncer).

is this the modern interweb version of "my Dad's harder than your Dad?"

chris, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's also ILE folklore that Pete is unbreakable.

j>e>l, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I will join in the beating up of Pete just cos he refers to himself in the third person.

Emma, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know if it was because I was high from the codeine cough syrup I got for my bronchitis, or did I really see an advertisement for a teen movie that involved curling on the CBC?

Nicole, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yup. I forget what its called, involves shrooms though.

Samantha, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sweeeeeet

chris, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Somebody in the building next door whooped at the final shot tonight. I live in a West Indian neighborhood in Brooklyn. Residue of empire?

Benjamin, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

anthony is a seer (but why "yanks"?)

Jeff W, Friday, 22 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay! Gold for GB!

j>e>l, Friday, 22 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice to see some fellow Scottish ladies on the medal podium for a change

leigh, Friday, 22 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, so, somebody explain this to me -- the apparent god of Canadian curling misses the men's gold medal by an inch?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 23 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ed the Wrench? No say it aint so, but I think he retired anyways.

Teenish movie about curling "Men With Brooms"
They had to think long and hard for that title.

Mr Noodles, Saturday, 23 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

why are there separate men's and ladies' teams? doesn't everyone "sweep" the same? equestrian events are bi-sexual, why not curling?

, Sunday, 24 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

With the large amounts of beer involved in curling you best believe its in the best interest of the sport to keep the teams unisex.

Mr Noodles, Sunday, 24 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ten months pass...
I finally saw Men With Brooms tonight. LOVED the beavers! And it was great how they had the cameo by the Hip as *themselves* as the curling team representing Kingston.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 4 January 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

seven years pass...

captures the mind
