I am flashing back hard to my youth watching Sunday morning Popeye cartoon fests on LA channel 5, I think. And loving it.

a photoshopped piccy of El Mozzer made from a rather unflattering pic published by the SF Chronicle this week:

I should clarify: the original photo was published by the SF Chronicle. Some fan photoshopped this piccy b/c of Mozzer's uncanny resemblance to a certain sailor man.

That's hilarious.

Oilyrags, Saturday, 5 May 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

are there subtitles?

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 5 May 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

I can't imagine who'd have the patience to transcribe them.

Oilyrags, Saturday, 5 May 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

Heretical but true: I'd rather have these DVDs than Fantagraphics' Thimble Theatre books.

is there any reason not to own both?

I wonder if there's a list of films that appeared on Hatten's family film festival?

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 5 May 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I will at least netflix these to see if they make me as happy as they did in 1980.

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 5 May 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

My own recent experience with bootleg versions says: yes, they are still among the most wonderful animations ever produced. Especially the color "Arabian Nights" two reelers.

I used to tape random clips off tv, and the best one I ever got was of old b&w Popeye strutting around on a dock, pipe in mouth, wearing a frilly dress for no reason.
