can you help me hate your people?

A good way to do some proper hating is to have an "inside man" working with you, so let's get organized by pooling our harsh criticism together to create a thread of great antipathy.

the hate must flow.

"A Quebec race-relations group is launching a federal human rights complaint backed by a prominent U.S. foundation after an Internet cartoon used the name "Kunta Kinte" for a large-lipped African cannibal trying to make stew out of two Quebec tourists.
(..)
Gregory Stiverson, president of the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation in Annapolis, Md., says he was dumbfounded when he saw the video on a wildly popular Quebec website. He wrote a letter expressing support for the human rights complaint.

"Something like this probably wouldn't have appeared in the United States since the 1960s," Stiverson said in an interview.

"My assumption would have been that Canadians had gone through the same thing we had in terms of heightened sensibilities. I guess not." "

after watching and reading that one show

I guess not either. The way almost no one from the audience of that show addressed the "kunta kinte" comment directly is an expression of crass ignorance.

Other thing: the popular internet cartoon site that made that sad excuse of a gag is shamelessly aping homestarrunner like 10 years after the fact.

ok people of all nations, your turn.

I'm a Texan. If you don't hate us already, I'm not sure what more I can do.

"Dieu reçoit is a comedy show with a religious satirical theme, which is evident from the show’s title. Intended as a weekly program, it made its debut on Télévision Quatre Saisons (TQS) (Montreal) on February 16, 1999 and, as matters evolved, it ceased to be broadcast after April 23."

our right wing catholic people were not pleased...

"Once the decision was made to remove the show from the programming schedule, the broadcaster began to respond to complainants with the following short letter:

"The CBSC has forwarded your letter expressing concern regarding the program Dieu reçoit broadcast on TQS.

Please note that the program is no longer broadcast as of last April 23rd.

We thank you for making your concerns known to us."

I'm not really sure who my people are! I at first had that very stereotypical "but I'm just a white English-speaking American, I have no people!" Then I was like wait, those are a people, but do I want to be associated with them? Do I identify as "American, but liberal"? In either case, the fact that I have to insert a "but" shows we're pretty hateable, right? And what about the Armenian side of my family? Ooh, I'm Christian, lots of people hate Christians for various reasons.

Maria, Saturday, 5 May 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

Fucking armenian scum!

I think my tendency to get caught-up in the minutiae of good reasoning gets in the way of good hating. itt arguments leading to establishing a critical perspective are not to be willfully ignored but to be gleefully corrupted.
It would be cool if the old gang of IRE would visit this thread; they really knew how to hate.

Adrian McCoy was a top notch hater

As my Scottish-American grandpa was known to opine about the race of people his daughter would later marry into:

"Goddamn lazy Swedes."

That's my family. Breaking down those racial barriers.

IRE is an awesome acronym for some get-smartish crew of villains

Irish Americans: racist, drunk all the time, fighting all the time, got the police and the fire departments sewn up, homophobic, Catholic.

Actual Irish: racist, drunk all the time, can't be arsed fighting any more while there's property to buy in Eastern Europe, not even really Catholic but damned if they're going to allow non-Catholics get a look in.

accentmonkey, Sunday, 6 May 2007 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

Are Swedes known for their laziness? haha, I don't even know what to hate lots of people for.

Maria, Sunday, 6 May 2007 18:09 (eighteen years ago)

i feel love

Are Swedes known for their laziness?

I think that they're probably pretty industrious, but grandpa had a pair of shiftless Swedish coworkers who apparently soured him for life. I'm happy to use it as an excuse though:

"Honey! Why didn't you take out the trash?"
"Aw shucks babe, you know me: bork! bork! bork!"
