Dreaming about sleeping with someone that you really shouldn't have

Last night I had a dream where my housemate and I had hott hott sex. I don't particularly fancy my housemate, not because she isn't attractive (she is) but more because she's a housemate and a friend. I think it's probably best for all concerned if I don't say anything to her, although when I bumped into her coming out of the shower this morning I didn't really know where to look.

1) Have you ever had a dream about sleeping with someone inappropriate?
2) Did it change the way you thought about them?
3) Did you tell them? How did they take it?

(I do realise this all isn't very important, but my housemate has rather taken over my brain at the moment, and I'm intrigued as to how other people react(ed))

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 09:46 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, I've had that suckers before.
it is strange.
You wonder if they're had the same dream.
telepathy dirty dreaming.

klankton, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

Ha ha ha ha ha, oh god, yes.

My reaction has mainly been "err, what was that about?" Sometimes I get a bit red-faced around the person for a bit, but it wears off. Dreams aren't supposed to make sense. It doesnt' mean anything.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

I don't particularly fancy my housemate, not because she isn't attractive (she is) but more because she's a housemate and a friend

I don't get this -you either do or you don't. And you obviously do!

How did they take it?

!!!!!!!!

Dr.C, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 09:56 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, you find someone attractive without fancying them!

There's such a thing as finding someone aesthetically pleasing without actually wanting to shag them! Fuckwant is about a lot more than just physical attractiveness.

There are a lot of my friends that I think are physically lovely but I'd never fancy them.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah but...if you then had a dream about shagging them, wouldn't that perhaps reveal something?

But then, I believe that dreams do mean something!

Dr.C, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:06 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I know it doesn't mean anything, but that doesn't change the fact that I've got the image of my housemate's fantastic breasts bouncing around in front of me, and it's most distracting.

I don't get this -you either do or you don't. And you obviously do!

What I mean is, if we met randomly in a pub or something I would have no compunction about trying my luck. But we're not, so (conscious) thoughts of rumpy-pumpy haven't entered my brain before.

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

For gods sake, I've had dreams about shagging everyone from Ian Curtis (really graphic, with condom mess and everything!) to one of my bandmates - who isn't even the right *gender* for me! It doesn't mean anything except neurons misfiring.

I mean, not to go meta-freudian, but sometimes in a dream, sex is just a metaphor for something else.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

And sometimes it's not.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

Dreaming about sex = you need to start smoking cigars?

StanM, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:12 (eighteen years ago)

I had a dream once about a bandmate. We were kissing. It was tender and passionate, but not full sex so perhaps not the same thing as this thread is asking. I was shocked, and I thought it maybe did mean something. I told him about it, one drunken night. Now we're married.

During the ten, eleven years I've been with him I've had sex dreams about all sorts of people. I've realised it can't possibly mean anything, but I'm kinda glad I thought it did, back then.

Zora, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

1) Have you ever had a dream about sleeping with someone inappropriate? Yes
2) Did it change the way you thought about them? No
3) Did you tell them? Yes How did they take it? I thought he might've laughed or been horrified or something, but I think his exact words were "happy to be part of that". Which was nice.

C J, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:20 (eighteen years ago)

And sometimes it's not.

My gf was saying how she's got a crushofshame on Piers Morgan because she had a dirty dream about him once (apparently he had an ENORMOUS cock) and since then she gets hot flushes whenever she sees a pic of him.

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

when I bumped into her coming out of the shower this morning I didn't really know where to look.

You could have looked down and looked at your throbbing XL sized penis. wink wink nudge nudge

nathalie, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

dude you obviously fancy her, and why the fuck not?

696, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

I had one of these last night, for the first time in rather a long time. It was someone much, much worse than a housemate.

But someone much, much better than my mother.

melton mowbray, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, yes and no.

leigh, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, not to go meta-freudian, but sometimes in a dream, sex is just a metaphor for something else.

And sometimes a banana is just a banana. And sometimes a sex dream means you ain't getting enough jiggy. ;-)

nathalie, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:34 (eighteen years ago)

Seeing as how JB has a girlfriend, I assume he's getting plenty of jiggy!

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:35 (eighteen years ago)

DudeI dreamt about making out with J0hn D last night. I'm not sure what to think. (hahah sorry J0hn).

Trayce, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:35 (eighteen years ago)

My dream was about a colleague, what made it stranger was that another colleague had the same dream.

leigh, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)

last night Roger Penrose* appeared to me in a dream and explained what should be the title of the Shimuras album! Doesn't mean I want to shag him, either!

*except I had no idea what he looked like, so it was actually my shoegazer friend Roger just pretending to be Roger Penrose and talking about maths. It's entirely within the realm of possibility that I secretly want to shag him, though.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

I'm anything but short on jiggy at the mo. If I were it would provide a more obvious explanation.

kate, I would be more surprised if you DIDN'T want to shag Roger Penrose! (I too have no idea what he looks like).

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

I just posted a picture of him on the wrong thread. He is actually quite hott. There was no sex in the dream, though. He was just explaining the universe from first principles, and all of the equations he was speaking were turning into flowers and paisley and plumes of pretty feedback and music.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

I might get drunk tonight and tell her and see what happens. It might be funny!

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

I do have sexual dreams but normally they involve actually trying to find somewhere decent to rut without other people coming up to me and asking me what I'm doing.

the next grozart, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

He was just explaining the universe from first principles, and all of the equations he was speaking were turning into flowers and paisley and plumes of pretty feedback and music.

Thats kind of hot actually Kate!

Trayce, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:23 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, it was totally hot! I might say better than sex, but I'll get beaten up for saying that around here. It was the best dream I've had in ages!

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:25 (eighteen years ago)

Paisley is not hot.

braveclub, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

In my universe, paisley is totally hott. But regardless, it wasn't really paisley so much as psychedelic patterns. When I woke up, I recognised them as Penrose tiling:

Trayce, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

Sexy!

the next grozart, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

Dont mind me, I'm in spazmo infatuation mode atm so I am totally getting it, heh.

Trayce, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

this happened in Friends once. that was a funny show.

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:44 (eighteen years ago)

you know you've reached a low-point when your life = Friends plot

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:47 (eighteen years ago)

well i think Friends got the idea from real life. dont worry.

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:49 (eighteen years ago)

xpost especially if you dress like Friends.

nathalie, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

hey i remember that show!

the next grozart, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

I've had many of these dreams and I don't believe they all necessarily mean I've fancied the other party in real life. If that is true then I'm probably in need of some serious therapy.

ENBB, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

my best friend told me she'd had a dream about me once, i was flattered.

that was years ago

and recently i had a sex dream about her boyfriend, and i told him, he wasn't quite so flattered.

as kate said, it's all just over excited neurons missing their mark. just a bit of fun really.

Ste, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 13:56 (eighteen years ago)

I never have racy dreams, ever. I think I'm a little sad about that....

Laurel, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

I once dreamt I was having sex with Germaine Greer, and it was pretty good actually.

chap, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

I used to have recurring sex dreams about David Bowie. They were awesome. Come back to my dreams David!

ENBB, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

I never have racy dreams, ever. I think I'm a little sad about that....

me neither, and it's rare that i even remember my dreams. with the exception of the two dreams i had last week about being chased by alligators i couldn't tell you anything about my dreams.

:(

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

I have lovely vivid dreams, quite frequently and fairly often rather racy. I think it might be why I like sleeping so much. My dreams are awesome. I rather feel sorry for people who can't remember their dreams, it's like this whole beautiful world they can't access.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

I rather feel sorry for people who can't remember their dreams, it's like this whole beautiful world they can't access.

i don't want your pity.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

Coz you're, like, the only person in the universe who doesn't remember your dreams. Clearly.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)

yes, because by saying "i don't want your pity." i'm, like, speaking on behalf of everyone in the world. Clearly.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)

Is it Condescension Day already? Funny, my calendar left it off, must be a misprint.

Laurel, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)

For goodness sake, I'm not even allowed to be happy about awesome dreams without someone jumping on me?

I want to live in a dream. That doesn't mean that the real world isn't good, it's just because dreams are so enticingly wonderful.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)

Ha ha ha ha ha, JB maybe you ate all the bread while you were asleep!

Describe more of these "mundane dreams" please. I don't know if I just don't remember the mundane dreams (this is entirely possible) or if there's usually some element of surreality that stops even the most mundane dream from being totally mundane.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

He couldn't find the bread. It was dark!

Dr.C, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

It was on his forehead the whole time!

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

THE BREAD AND HIMSELF WERE THE SAME THING!!!

Mark G, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

The other night I dreamed that I was in a helicopter with a beautiful woman in her 40s who was - in my dream - a famous movie star. I lewdly asked her if she had a daughter. Slightly rattled, she said yes, she had a 12-year-old daughter. I said "wow, that's young!" She looked miffed. So I said "no, no, that's a COMPLIMENT!" (?????????????)

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

Yes. And he was dreaming about being buggered, that's the hilarious bit.

kenan, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

I think the reason why I remembered this dream is that it was the most mundane dream I've ever had. Lack of surrealness in dreams is surreal in itself.

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

I had a weird run of recurring dreams where i'd be doing all sorts of strange (and non sexual) things with Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh. I was on nicotine patches at the time so i suspect they may have had something to do with it.

leigh, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

my mundane dreams i guess are the ones where i dream i've actually got out of bed and start doing things. only to be gutted that i've got to drag myself out the pit all over again.

Ste, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

Lack of surrealness in dreams is surreal in itself.

Exactly!

I'm kind of relieved when I have those dreams where I get out of bed and go to work, because then I wake up and I'm still in bed. Mmmm, bed.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

My food dreams are anything but mundane. Eating in a dream is kinda like having sex in a dream... it's hyper-intense. I like dream Thai.

kenan, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

But then you wake up and sadly realize that not only are you not eating, but you're SO HUNGRY WTF

kenan, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

Waking up after dreaming you were awake and at work is only good if it's 2.30am or similar. If you're woken by one of those dreams half an hour before you have to get up anyway, it's the most annoying thing in the whole world.

That wasn't a dream, you were definitely sleep sandwich-making.

I've just realised that this post is saying that Roz was making a sleep sandwich with herself as the filling and naked Depeche Mode as the bread. Ewww.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

ARGH STOP.

Roz, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

my recent hilarious dream moment was when i was doing great tricks on my bmx, and just half way through a great wheelie i just started to say to myself
"oh its just a fucking dream isn't it, i can't do this at all in real life. shit"
and woke up as i put the wheel down in dismay

Ste, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

My favourite dreams are the dreamtrain dreams. Sometimes they are stress dreams, but other times, I am just catching a train in one city and transfer in a different city and get off in a third city entirely! And sometimes there are useful lines which go directly to my house which don't really exist. And other times there are mysterious lines that go nowhere near anywhere I know. It's kind of like the NYC subway and the London Tube and the Paris metro and all of British Rail rolled into one. It's stressful if I'm trying to get somewhere in the dream. But when I can manage to lucid dream in dreamtrainworld, I can go to the most extraordinary places.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

my lucid dreaming seems to have fallen off lately. I went through a spell of trying to read things in dreams, just for the heck of it. Was really odd, letters would just jump all over the place and freak me out

Ste, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

'read' as in read words, not read interpretations

Ste, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

YA THINK?

Hey, it could have been worse. It could have been UB40.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

That's half the fun of reading in dreams! You pick up a book and end up in the story! (I think that's how my Roger Penrose dream came about.)

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

Mine was:

I was trying to hawk a pop act and spieled a tale about how most bands are sold to a big label conglomerate.

Next thing I know, I'm managing their heavy metal label, and chairing a lecture about the development cycle of a band, from the 'first session' to the 'meganame'.

When I woke up, thought to myself "ah all bol, really" but on reflection all of the stages I recounted actually made sense.

No sleeping with anyone was involved...

Mark G, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

Of course I read books in my dreams!

Sometimes they're real books (though I haven't actually read The Road To Reality which I was reading in the dream last night), sometimes they're completely made up books whose narrative my subconscious provides. Those are fantastic - I wake up wanting to run to my notebook and jot down the plot.

Or better, when I'm listening to music in my dreams. And sometimes it is the most amazing piece of music I've ever heard. If I'm lucky, I can wake up and get to a guitar or the computer and write it down. But the worst thing in the world is if I get distracted on my way there, and then the beautiful music is gone forever. :-(

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, but then later it's kind of crap, isn't it? I've found that it is.

kenan, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, it's only the best thing ever while you're still asleep. Again, like dream sex.

kenan, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

I woke up with a new tune, and was singing it to myself all morning.

But it must have been in 'temp' as by the afternoon, the tune and rhythm had gone and I only had the title.

But! It's now back and saved in a more permanent brainfolder.

xpost My last dreamsong is actually in development.

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

No, sometimes dream songs really are quite good. Or, well... other people like them as well as me. They've ended up recorded and performed at least.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

I do not write songs irl, that could explain why my dream songs are crap.

kenan, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

Well, then again, I also have these dreams where I can fly. And then I wake up and try it and GODDAMNIT, it doesn't work like it does in dreams. ;-)

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

I think the strangest dream I ever had was about the end of the world. The physics didn't work right - like if you looked in a lake, your reflection would spread out across the entire lake. And sound didn't travel properly, every footstep sounded muffled or came a microsecond too late. It was incredibly detailed and colourful and vivid. And strangely I wasn't scared, but the entire world was panicking.
