I know many varieties of North American Intense Dude, including the Hippieish Collegiate Intense Dude, the Proto-Alcoholic Intense Dude, the Lower-Middle Class Upward Mobility Intense Dude, the Mainstream-Politics Intense Dude, the Mainstream-Religion Intense Dude, the Non-Mainstream-Religion Intense Dude, and the Cresty Blue-Spattled Warbler Intense Dude, and all of these I can wrap my head around, but most of my efforts to imagine ENGLISH Intense Dudes just make me recoil in horror.

Today in the Salutation (a pub, rather than a bar): Joy Division, New Order, the Cure, Echo and the Bunneymen, Roxy Music, Kirsty MacColl and Pet Shop Boys. The Salutation is full of Intense Dudes, but of a slightly scary, heavily tattooed, grown-up Crusty / estate dwelling drug dealer variety. Good pub.
