is there any way you can get a free w2 replacement? I lost mine (I didn't file taxes this year) and I need it for financial aid app.

call the company that sent you the w2 to begin with and they will send you a new one.

wait a second, what are you even talking about? i got it confused with a w9. you can get a w2 by just typing "w2" into google.

the financial aid office should also have them.

The W-2 is the one with all your end of year info. Do you know anyone who has TurboTax installed? It has a way of electronically retrieving W-2 information, maybe it can get yours.

Umm, if you REALLY trust your memory, I'm pretty sure you can file a FAFSA based on estimated income and tax figures. You'd just need to be sure your memory will check out close enough against the actual figures that you won't look like a cheat and (I imagine) plunge into some fresh circle of form-faxing bureaucratic hell.

But obviously don't do that unless you (for some reason) can't get it from your employer (easy, just call) or from the government (probably more annoying, but whatever).

I lost one of my 2006 W-2s in the week before the tax deadline. I just used my last paystub from that job.

well, I already completed a FAFSA, but the school wants a copy for verification. The sketchy restauranteurs who employed me high-tailed it out of town, and honestly dealing with them would be more annoying than dealing with the government. I'm just not sure how I would go about requesting another one.
