i don't understand, enrique! what are you talking about?

michael philip, what kind of party was it? did it have to do with the olympics or something?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 10 May 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

i saw borat there. it's a cinema with a bar in it. what's to enthuse about? it's ok!

CharlieNo4, Thursday, 10 May 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

this is a souped-up community cultural centre headed till recently by a guy who was chief exec (or whatever) of the millennium dome. he is now head of the 2012 'olympics of culture' or whatever the fuck. i'm not saying anything agin it as a place cos i haven't been there.

charlie it looks like a lot more than that! but what the "more" is seems sort of up in the air

even if it were just a bethnal green version of the ritzy, though, lordy that part of town needed a good cinema

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 10 May 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

*cough*

www.genesiscinema.co.uk - 10 minutes' walk from rich mix. although admittedly not quite as hip'n'trendy.

tracer i had no idea about all the other stuff. they really need some promotion...

CharlieNo4, Thursday, 10 May 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

i saw Pan's Labyrinth at Rich Mix. their coffee cake was stale tho, watch out.

Tracer, it was the conclusion of this Whitechapel Gallery/Time Out art treasure hunt thing my housemates organised, you had to get clues from loads of small galleries in E. London to get into the free booze party at the end. I was in it for the booze.

Only spent time in the function room on the top floor really, nice place though.

i went tonight and sat in the cafe/reception area/gig venue for like 5 minutes and left, it felt weird

charlie i do know about the genesis! i want to go, but it's 10 minutes the wrong direction for me richmix is already like 25 minutes walk from my place ... actually come to think of it the ritzy's probably about that far away too

four years pass...

Went here for the 1st time last night. It was busy but I can't see the appeal. Uncomfortable seats, no leg room and stale pick-a-mix. Also I'm not sure if this a regular thing but they had actors in the queue for the counter giving out free popcorn?

went to the cinema here the other night. the cinemas are quite nice, i reminded myself, but overall i find it a fairly tepid and dull place to be. reminds me of the dole office.

The Curzon Mayfair is nice. Full of smartly dressed posh people last time I was there. Would def go back.

someone told me the renoir is great...

i actually like genesis mile end cos as much as it's a bit of a kip it's always empty. watched a few films on my own there, feet up, chilling.
