leather pants: scruffed up or impeccable?

("trousers" if you're british)

a few weeks ago i went to a sample sale for the first time. i went a little nuts. i bought some dark eggplant-color - almost black - leather pants. they fit me like a frickin glove, they are amazing. and not only that, they are a one-off pair by some designer. they look beatiful. the leather is thick but butter-soft, they ride low on my hips and have a button fly.

now the question is - do i scruff the hell out of these things? usually leather goods don't really feel like they belong to me until i've got them nice and messed up. or do i try to keep them pristine?

^@^, Saturday, 12 May 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

the first proper week's wage i ever had in my life was 90 quid, when i was temping at the DSS in blackpool.

i spent 80 of it on a pair of leather trousers in london that weekend. i was 16, and peter hook was my god.

i had to get rid of them when i couldn't fit into them any more. wish i hadn't, because i'm probably not much bigger now than i was back then. fuck.

i loved those things with a passion. i allowed them to become gently scuffed and slightly ripped.

i remember lending them to my (female) flatmate one night. they were never quite the same after that. nor was i :)

i mean there is the chuck taylor school of thought, which is that you wouldn't want to be caught dead in new-looking chucks; but then these cost a bit more than chuck taylors

The question is: how do they look on you now? Too shiny? Too...slippery, or something? Do you feel like everyone's gonna know you just got them?

G00blar, Saturday, 12 May 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)

haha yeah that's it, sort of a new haircut feeling. but also a little like i don't deserve to wear them.

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 May 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

i'm going to guy buy cigarettes in them

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 May 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

You need to ask yourself WWJJD?

i wonder if tracer hand is going to drink a beer in those pants tonite

696, Saturday, 12 May 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

They look awesome, it must be said. Alas, my days of wearing things that fit me like a glove are over, as I've (finally) come to realize that I just don't like my body very much.

G00blar, Saturday, 12 May 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

my friend was gifted with a pair of prescuffed leather pants. after several run-throughs, we decided that the only way they looked right was if the wearer was shirtless and barefoot.

lauren, Saturday, 12 May 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, i'm starting to think the same thing. here, for instance, is a photo of what i think are the same pants (although these look black). (i guess the ones i have could be that actual pair?)

I was a bit skeptical, but damn, those pants are GREBT! tracer, i like'em scruffed up. Don't go for the shiny impeccable unless you want to come off as a bit of a twat. VERY essential: the RIGHT pair of shoes!

stevienixed, Saturday, 12 May 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

you should get some denim shoes

RJG, Saturday, 12 May 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

I like sneakers with leather pants. And a tattered t-shirt.

stevienixed, Saturday, 12 May 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

They look like awesome pants now, and I worry about some kind of "accident" happening with intentional scruffing. Be careful!

Maria, Saturday, 12 May 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

Leather pants are great, but I could wear them maybe 5 days a week here.

Abbott, Saturday, 12 May 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)

Oops, I mean 5 days a year.

Abbott, Saturday, 12 May 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I say it's not so fun at first, but wearing them in naturally will look the best by far.

TRACER HAND IS WEARING LEATHER PANTS

APOCALYPSE IMMINENT

nabisco, Saturday, 12 May 2007 22:32 (eighteen years ago)

OMG, those are awesome.

The trick to breaking in leather clothes is to sleep in them a couple of times. Preferably on the floor of an apartment you've never been in before.

Oh man, I miss my leather trousers but wearing them was many stones ago.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 14 May 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

i did drink beer, while wearing them! baby steps

Tracer Hand, Monday, 14 May 2007 11:04 (eighteen years ago)

i have decided to just like, let it happen, man

Tracer Hand, Monday, 14 May 2007 11:05 (eighteen years ago)

Good, this is the best attitude. They will soon enough go all saggy in the arse and knees without your mucking about with the leather.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 14 May 2007 11:06 (eighteen years ago)
