Is it, like, against the etiquette of this board to hype my own band? I'm new to this net thing and I'm a bit cautious about things like that.

tarden, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wrote this . It will be published tomorrow .

6 tangerines in a red net bag

I take them out one by one
put them in the blue bowl .
on top of the fridge
long after dusk
when we are ready to go to bed
we unpeel them
and feed each other
segments
the juice runs down our forearms
onto our bellies and backs
makes us sticky,stains the sheets

anthony, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tarden, I think if there's a specific post where it says it's ok to hype stuff then it's cool...it's not like you are going on other threads and randomly hyping stuff that way...

james e l, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cool.

Music separated from both 'feel' and 'intelligence! Abrasive minimal maximalism!

tarden, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The one and only painting I've ever done is here.
I write a lot but none of that is available online.
I used to sketch but I haven't done that in a while.
My music is not available online either.

Melissa W, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's really pretty, Mel! Why don't you sketch any more?

Oh dear lord... you all know about my band, so I don't even bother to hype it any more.

My artwork is all over the web at this point, some of it I still like, most of it I'm embarrassed by. I used to do illustrations for various zines so many of the so pictures of pop stars and stuff are here. I actually far prefer the stuff in my online diary, it's far more powerful and interesting. There's more later stuff and some really old, very scary stuff from when I was very very ill here.

Are you sick of looking yet?

Of my novels, the only ones available online are the fan fiction ones. The best of these are The Deep Field, Pretty Deep Waters and Loving In A World Of Desire.

Gosh, that's a lot of stuff when you look at it accumulated up. But then I always feel like it's never enough. I feel like I've done practically nothing in the past year, by comparison. But then I remember The Lollies.

Sorry for being so arrogant and posting so much...

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought I made a boring, hideous, inept artist and gave up.
Actually it's that way with everything right now. I hate everything I do so much that I've stopped making music, writing, or creating anything.

Melissa W, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Brazen Hussies are playing the Verge (Kentish Town) 24 August and the Hope & Anchor 1 Sept. I promise I'll bring the vodka jello and bucket of live bait this time!

tarden, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't do anything creative anymore. I used to when I was at college, but now my job forces me to forgo everything creative I enjoyed. It makes me really sad, because I feel like I'm not actually doing anything with my life that I'm proud of. :(

Paul Strange, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mel, the way to get through a creative block like that is just to keep doing things anyway. You get better at everything with practise. And also, expose yourself to more influences. I find that the more I look at art, the better art I make. (could explain a lot right now).

By the way, you might like this illustration. ;-)

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If you go here: http://poetrysoc.com/places/publicat.htm you can find details of a book which I edited and which the Pinefox contributed to. You might even be able to buy it, but the PoSoc online shop looks seriously fuckt.

at www.papercuts.co.uk - if you click on the issues button and then on the link to C188 you can freak out the Pinefox by downloading a song he and I performed: Daystar by the Foxgloves.

stevie t, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Seeing as the pf seems to feel under attack from me lately, let me just say that his chapter in 'The Message' is one of the finest pieces of popcrit I've read. In particular, he is spot on about Morrissey's lyrics.

Nick, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, you're all figments of my imagination anyway, so I say my creative work is on display! My hands get tired from all the typing, though.

Uh...such stuff is either in my head in fragments and will not be shared with anyone until I am happy with it, or can be found in the usual locales. And it's all pretty much writing as opposed to the plastic arts.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate : Your art is fab. Clever and fun, good sense of line . Sort of poppish but not really . I like !
Mellissa ; Great colors, good structure , nice work !

anthony, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fuct & fiction - 1st novel, excerpt here I think - http://www.hungrypublishing.com/category/detail.html? pubid=6&pickpubid=0

Mike Hanle y, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mel taht painting is very strange. I think it could be in a gallery anywwhere, It has an odd quailty of nothingness. Not necesarrily minimalist but more nihilist, a little mournful. I get a feeling of lonliness from, almost in a Hopper way.

Mike Hanle y, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd say I'm rather adept at pencil and charcoal drawing. Maybe I'll post something on the web sometime. I'm doing a Fine Arts degree, so I'm experimenting with new mediums constantly. Oh, and James, your bed looks terribly uncomfortable. Try a futon.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That bed looks exactly my room.

I'm seriously worried about Mel (not because of the picture, which is good, but it seems she's given up).

Steven James, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I liked Mel's painting, too. You've got creative energy left in you yet, Mel! Don't succumb to the numbing forces of self-loathing!

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey Mel stick in there. At least you've got some real talent. Me I just cruise this board and stick in ill thought comments.

Billy Dods, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

::sniff:: yeah, no one encourages my creativity except Anthony. That's it, you all think I'm rubbish... ::throws self off bridge::

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But I love you, Kate! Doomie says do me!*

*not acksherly doompatrol, just one of his many "fans"

doomie, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh yay. Thank you for the pickmeup. Whenever I think nobody loves me and I should eat some worms, I'll just remember how much Doomie loves me. XOXO!!!

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Whoa, too much praise. *implodes*

I'm not accustomed to that.

Melissa W, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Twas a good painting indeed, and you've got some definite writing talent as well. So smile! We likes ya. :-)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How would you know if I had writing talent? My messages on this board tend towards the incoherent, I think.

Melissa W, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OK, I take it back... two people on the board praise me... Doompatrol is in love with me, and Everett True likes the Lollies.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee... can I stop being starstruck now, please?

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

::sniff:: yeah, no one encourages my creativity except Anthony. That's it, you all think I'm rubbish... ::throws self off bridge::

Kate, I hope you won't hate me for saying this, but I think they're all fantastic, especially Tom Yorke's lips.

Though that's probably because I'm entirely inept at most things creative, though I'm alright at designing stuff in QuarkXPress and such.

Graham, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Graham, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate, two words: ELIZABETH PEYTON. What do you reckon?

suzy, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

To Mel -- some bits of writing from your website made me think so. :-)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There are bits of writing on my website?
