before we head off to join the ILXors in chicago and then boston, we'd both love to say goodbye to everyone in london.

the evening of 13 june is pretty much the only evening where we're both in the country and available, so let's do then!

we're planning a silly early dinner at the anchor and hope, should be done close to 7pm, so should pick somewhere south bank way, but don't have any good ideas. do you?

OMG we move three weeks from today!

colette, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

Wouldn't miss this at all. And will be off deadline next week, so I can meet you, C.

suzy, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

Sarf bank eh? It's not the most attractive of venues but The Founders Arms is large and easy to find and actually pretty decent I think. Or The Windmill or The Ring, both on the Cut so easy for you, and closer to Waterloo and Southwark tubes.

ledge, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

The Windmill, The Ring

ledge, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

what's that one that's around there that has a big room at the back and serves thai food and we've had FAPs before?

colette, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

The King's Arms. Run by the same people as The Windmill and The Ring.

ledge, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

I feel quite sad that I never really got to know Toby & Colette. Perhaps I will be able to stop by in SE1 for a swift half.

Michael Jones, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

Founders Arms would be awesome if it's a sunny day, which it could well be by then.

Matt DC, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

King's Arms is always good though although it tends to get packed with commuters early doors and the last time we fapped there it was RAMMED. If we're going there we should probably consider phoning ahead - although that might require a fair few of us to eat there.

Matt DC, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

it's ok, mike, we'll be back in 2 or 3 years. by which time, ava will probably be dating (or at least posting on ILX)

toby says he's always meant to talk to you more, since you're apparently both always on the same 'geeky threads, like headphones and stuff'.

whenever i've been to the founders arms, it's been really crowded outside. is it bigger inside than it looks?

colette, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

Actually the Founders Arms is far closer to London Bridge than Waterloo which is not great for you guys so Tom's other suggestions are probably better.

Matt DC, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

will def pop in to say adios before running away to art brut fun.

CharlieNo4, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

i look forward to seeing whoever can make it - sorry for my general ineptitude in all this leaving stuff (i'm not even having any goodbye drinks at work, so in comparison this seems like being well organised).

n.b. i also think mike always seems like someone i want to know for lots of other reasons (i don't have a burning desire to hang ou with most people on headphone threads!).

toby, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

mike is right up there with buddha and florence nightingale

blueski, Friday, 1 June 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

ok, i'm bumping this so UK people who read at work can see it, and further the discussion around where to have it. after looking at fancyapint's website, i'm no closer to having any idea where to have it. the closer to the anchor and hope the better as we'll lose less time getting there after dinner...

colette, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

I'll do a quike recce after work to see if windmill or ring are less busy than king's arms - I think they should be. And they all do thai food.

ledge, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

I am major bummed that I will be on a flight back from Spain and will miss this.

I'll just have to visit in Chicago!

GOOD LUCK TOBLETTE!

Pete, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

That sounds like a Toblerone-esque mini bite that I WANT TO EAT.

I will definitely come by this: I like the sound of the Ring as I haven't been there since the refit (back when dinos roamed the land ect) :)

Sarah, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

Will try to pop in to say hello/ goodbye.

Anna, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

Well they were both busy but not rammed. 6 & half a doz. Ring has more outside tables albeit on the corner of a busy junction.

ledge, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 08:32 (eighteen years ago)

Will try and drop by depending on which eurostar I can get back from brussels. ( I have a stupid 17:10 meeting over here which may prevent me from making last orders)

Ed, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 09:47 (eighteen years ago)

you know this is next week, ed?!

toby, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 12:06 (eighteen years ago)

chocolate and cheese, together at last!

blueski, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

is it okay to say goodbye to toby and colette even though i wear glasses?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)

yes but we must discuss those trousers.

blueski, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)

tracer hand, you have to say goodbye especially because you understand what we're leaving the UK for! kool aid! cheez whiz! and hot showers!

we're not going to anchor and hope now, just hayward gallery from 5-6. so maybe we could move it a bit more central? is the yorkshire grey ok? haven't been there but it's on the way home. only criteria are: there's enough room, i can get a glass of wine, there's beer to keep ILXors happy...

colette, Monday, 11 June 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

hot showers?

blueski, Monday, 11 June 2007 14:31 (eighteen years ago)

yorkshire grey fitzrovia?

blueski, Monday, 11 June 2007 14:31 (eighteen years ago)

the one on the corner of greys inn road and rosebery ave.

i'm thinking 'it would be nice if it's easy to get home' from.

so somewhere central where there's a decent glass of wine (ie no sam smiths) and they have been that ilxors like. suggestions? soon?

stevem: isn't crappy showers a constant 'TS: US v UK' thing? our shower is hot most of the time, but the rest of the time is icy cold.

colette, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

The Little duke of york round the corner is nicer and has more seats

Ed, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

Our shower is perfectly hot all the time. Perhaps it is only this which keeps Pam in the country. I never considered this.

(Chances of coming to this receding due to work commitments... :( )

Michael Jones, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

yorkshire grey is v nice, i second that one

lex pretend, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

http://fancyapint.com/pubs/pub340.html

Ed, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

the yorkshire grey is full of lawyers and indie music journos

Ed, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

;-)

Ed, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

isn't crappy showers a constant 'TS: US v UK' thing? our shower is hot most of the time, but the rest of the time is icy cold.

oh yeah, probably. mine's pretty sucky too.

blueski, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

does the duke of york sell wine or cocktails? i haven't gotten round to drinking beer yet...

colette, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

What about the Chapel Bar? Old-skool.

Matt DC, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

That is not an entirely serious suggestion, although I would be up for it.

Matt DC, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

So far north. I thought all ILX was SE now.

ledge, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

It has a reasonable selection of wine and pretty good food. A better than average bar back as well. For the beer drinker, they have IPA and Broadside which a little bit of a downer as IPA is a bit generic and Broadside is oddly sweet.

Ed, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

I likes IPA. but Greene King = evil brewery monopoly.

ledge, Monday, 11 June 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

I thought the reason the Little Duke is usually vetoed for FAPs is because it's a bit too small for a largeish gathering? I've never been in myself despite it being very close to my office.

Matt DC, Monday, 11 June 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

You should have come down yesterday and said hello! (I quite liked it, but we were a very small party, perhaps because you were all vetoing it on grounds of size, or else because you all hate me).

The Yorkshire Grey are evil bastards because they were booked privately for a christening and wouldn't let me in to use their loos on the way back from the Duke (never actually thought to go there, being a complete moron), leading to a terribly uncomfortable moment when I thought I would never make it back down to High Holborn to find somewhere open :-(

ailsa, Monday, 11 June 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to get back to London for this, so unfair. :(

c sharp major, Monday, 11 June 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

sorry we didn't come out on sunday ailsa - we spent the entire day driving around london disposing of stuff/putting other stuff in storage. a fap would have been much more fun!

toby, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

No, that's fine. I was really just suggesting Matt could have broken his Duke duck. Good luck with the whole future thing :-)

ailsa, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, really sorry we couldn't be there ailsa, i think nearly anything would have been more fun than what we did, especially hanging out in a pub with you!

shall we just go with this duke of york place, or is there a risk it'll be too small and i have to say a) chapel bar or b) that place in hackney we went that everyone except me ate pork scratchings?

colette, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

Argh Ailsa I have not been paying much attention to things recently and thought your FAP was next weekend. Sorry, I R rubbish.

The Little Duke is fine with me really, I am not a big fan of the Yorkshire Gray. I might even use this as an excuse to go and check the pub out at lunchtime tomorrow, purely for research purposes.

Matt DC, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:48 (eighteen years ago)

didn't we fap in the duke of york before? when geeta was in town? that was fine

blueski, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

ok, so the FAP will be in the little duke of york, which is here: http://fancyapint.com/pubs/pub340.html

woo! we should be there from about 6:30 i should think.

colette, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

do they still serve pigeon?

blueski, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

Only if I find the time to go out hunting.

Ed, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

I won't be in the country for this, but bon voyage my lovelies! xx

marianna lcl, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, the change to a non-waterloo venue means my plan to drag a drunken colette back to ours for a SINGSTAR GRAND FINAL is scuppered! But obviously I'll be out for this.

JimD, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

Pigeon???

I'll be there, super stuff.

Sarah, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)

bump because this is tonight, woo!

i'll be bringing some clothes and makeup and stuff to give away. does anyone want candles? have a load to give away and would be happy to bring and give. (i'm not bringing the shelves, but if you want shelves, let me know)

colette, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 11:03 (eighteen years ago)

Er, I still want that pile of vinyl which Toby's leaving behind, if that's not too much for you to lug over (if it is that's fine, I'll pick it up later).

JimD, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)

(PS Sarah, don't forget yr pokemangs!)

JimD, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

oh dudes, i'm going art brut tonight and because i am Gig Dad (ie i haf the tickets) i have to hang around t'astoria from early...

i *suppose* if the gig finished relatively early (which they tend to) we could be over for last orders...

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

I knew Waterloo was too good to be true ;_;

Mark C, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

drat colette i'm rehearsing at waterloo tonight and thought i'd be able to come for last hour or so ;_;

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 13:01 (eighteen years ago)

OH NO!! I don't have Pokémon with me today!! Jim! :( This is why EVERYTHING just needs to be on the R4...

Sarah, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

i will bring the vinyl, jim. also extra vinyl is up for grabs (as it just failed to sell on ebay), including 7" singles by THEAUDIENCE and HEFNER. pretty exciting i'm sure you'll all agree.

toby, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

It seems like someone is trying to offload singles by Theaudience and Hefner at every FAP these days. Got any Ultrasound?

I've got a couple of things to sort out early doors but should be there by 7.30ish I hope.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 14:04 (eighteen years ago)

I can bring some Ooberman if you're keen.

Mark C, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

i to am art Bruting from early doors cos my lovely friends Ciccone are opening for them at like 7.15 or something, so i'm sorry to say i won't be able to make it to the farewell.

however, i heartily echo carsmile's sentiment about the possibility of popping in later. steve, mail me?

g'luck colette and toby!

CharlieNo4, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

i totally saw a NEW ooberman alBUM in fopp the other day, i had no idea...

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

Charlie, i don't think i'm going in that early as i have tickets to distribute, also can't stomach that much astoria beer ;) i intend to see what timeit is at the end and jump on a 55 if it's before 10.30 (and i am not p!ssed already, oh HOLD ON...)

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

Godspeed, Toby and Colette. Definitely can't make it (need to cram 4hrs work into next 80min, then dash home and be a parent while Pam works - until 11pm when I need to take over and do some more work...)

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

no problem, mike, sounds like you have your hands full!

no ultrasound available, i'm afraid (the one 7" i had actually sold!).

toby, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

i've still got the ultrasound cd single that came sealed in a plastic case, UNOPENED!

mind i have got the rest of the singles as well AND THEY ARE GOOD ;)

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

Also are people planning on eating here?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

i am sorry to miss this! not heard the last from you, obv. all the best to you both.

Alan, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

yay, that was loads of fun, thanks everyone that came!

it was great to give away so much stuff, although the barmaid chasing after us to give me back my broken umbrella wasn't as great.

sorry to carsmile who turned up just as we were being chucked out, it was lovely that you made the effort.
