An owl keeps flying at/around me when I walk through the laundry district, and out of 4 pet stores I've been to this week, each one has had a dying baby guinea pig that I've had to point out to the staff. I've encountered 3 baby or teenaged birds that can't fly that I've had to put in trees; unfortunately my dog ate the third. I got to see its entrails, but augury was not on my mind because I was extremely distressed. I also found a hummingbird caught in a spiderweb that I set free. I do not believe in signs, omens or portents, but this is all very upsetting.

I was also upset by how the last episodes of Dr. WHO have been terrible and how disappointing and shocking it was that Dr. House fired all of his staff. TV WHY WHAT ARE YOU DOING GIVING ME IDEAS OF REFERENCE THAT AREN'T EVEN ENTERTAINING?

OMG the Who and House episodes are called Human Nature and Human Error, respectively. Whats?

I am not a spiritual or religious person at all and don't believe in things like fate or messages from the ~beyond~ etc. Lately though I've been having a lot of exceptionally weird coincidences that could perhaps be interpreted as "signs". Why is this? Is it that I'm just noticing things that are connected to issues/ideas currently present in my life? I suspect that is what's going on but nevertheless it's really sort of spooky.

i do suspect someone set this all up. although to do that would be totally out of character for any of my friends.

My best friend at college used to make wishes at 11.11, 12.34, 1.11, 2.22, 3.33, 4.44 and 5.55 if she happened to see the times on digital clocks. She was most fond of 11.11.

I never notice 11:11, but I frequently notice 22:22. This probably has something to do with the fact that I am mostly nocturnal.

If you start believing in "signs" and start looking for them, you'll inevitably "find" them. Every day we witness a kazillion different things, so it's easy to notice the coincidences that fit with whatever you think the signs refer to, and ignore all the countless things that don't fit with it.

i'd agree with that, Tuomas, but i'm not sure that it's necessarily a bad thing if you're conscious of that phenomenon. i'm not a believer in superstition or predestination, but encounters of synchronicity can be delightful, powerful, even numinous.

Yes Tuomas I agree with you too and I think that's what I was trying to say (albeit less eloquently) in my revive. I'm sure it's that I'm noticing these things or connections because of what I'm currently dealing with and/or thinking about. I don't actually think they have any otherworldly significance at all but it's still interesting and a little weird.

I know exactly what you're talking about, and I LOVE it when this happens. Even if it's utterly meaningless, it is very entertaining and always makes me happy.
