For the second time in one day, shuffle kicked up "Louie Louie" by Motorhead. It is a message from beyond! But what does it mean?

Oilyrags, Saturday, 2 June 2007 04:40 (eighteen years ago)

It means you should go to sea. It's a sea shanty.

accentmonkey, Saturday, 2 June 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

dude, it's a hump song

g-kit, Saturday, 2 June 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

Damnit! Why couldn't you guys have posted that stuff before I bought these two designer handbags on ebay?

Oilyrags, Saturday, 2 June 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

An owl keeps flying at/around me when I walk through the laundry district, and out of 4 pet stores I've been to this week, each one has had a dying baby guinea pig that I've had to point out to the staff. I've encountered 3 baby or teenaged birds that can't fly that I've had to put in trees; unfortunately my dog ate the third. I got to see its entrails, but augury was not on my mind because I was extremely distressed. I also found a hummingbird caught in a spiderweb that I set free. I do not believe in signs, omens or portents, but this is all very upsetting.

sunny successor, Sunday, 3 June 2007 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

Oh right 11:11. Fuck I'm not even looking at that as I type it. :*

Abbott, Sunday, 3 June 2007 01:00 (eighteen years ago)

I was also upset by how the last episodes of Dr. WHO have been terrible and how disappointing and shocking it was that Dr. House fired all of his staff. TV WHY WHAT ARE YOU DOING GIVING ME IDEAS OF REFERENCE THAT AREN'T EVEN ENTERTAINING?

Abbott, Sunday, 3 June 2007 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

OMG the Who and House episodes are called Human Nature and Human Error, respectively. Whats?

Abbott, Sunday, 3 June 2007 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

Also, if you put those doctors' names together you get: Who House.

WHO'S HOUSE?!!?!?

RUN'S HOUSE!!!!!!!

Oilyrags, Sunday, 3 June 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

I am not a spiritual or religious person at all and don't believe in things like fate or messages from the ~beyond~ etc. Lately though I've been having a lot of exceptionally weird coincidences that could perhaps be interpreted as "signs". Why is this? Is it that I'm just noticing things that are connected to issues/ideas currently present in my life? I suspect that is what's going on but nevertheless it's really sort of spooky.

11:11? You mean when a digital clock time reads all the same numbers? What do you do then?

Someone keeps hanging Cathy cartoons in the bathroom where I work. I think that's a sign I need to get another job.

Feel free to print that out & hold it over your head while considering this.

baleen, the krill queen (Abbott), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 02:13 (sixteen years ago)

TBH I'm probably just going to staple it to my forehead.

ENBB, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 02:14 (sixteen years ago)

You need to figure out a way to get tadpoles to jump out of your head when anxious, like Cathy has.

"Oh right 11:11. Fuck I'm not even looking at that as I type it. :*"

ha, read this just as the clock turned 11:11.

ultimate cosmic 11:11 moment was during a hungover kitchen hangout. the clocked turned 11:11 and we began discussing how odd it was that we all seem to notice it, just as the topic came up i received a text message from my friend joe that read simply "eleven-eleven". none of us had been in contact with joe for weeks. i love little coincidences like

i do suspect someone set this all up. although to do that would be totally out of character for any of my friends.

Crackle Box, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 10:24 (sixteen years ago)

My best friend at college used to make wishes at 11.11, 12.34, 1.11, 2.22, 3.33, 4.44 and 5.55 if she happened to see the times on digital clocks. She was most fond of 11.11.

bad hijab (suzy), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 10:33 (sixteen years ago)

I never notice 11:11, but I frequently notice 22:22. This probably has something to do with the fact that I am mostly nocturnal.

emil.y, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 11:00 (sixteen years ago)

Me, at 22:22 yesterday:

Gerard (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 11:29 (sixteen years ago)

Hahahaha my friend was doing her wishing in America, where 'military' time is not used...

giovanni & ribsy (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 12:56 (sixteen years ago)

If you start believing in "signs" and start looking for them, you'll inevitably "find" them. Every day we witness a kazillion different things, so it's easy to notice the coincidences that fit with whatever you think the signs refer to, and ignore all the countless things that don't fit with it.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:26 (sixteen years ago)

i'd agree with that, Tuomas, but i'm not sure that it's necessarily a bad thing if you're conscious of that phenomenon. i'm not a believer in superstition or predestination, but encounters of synchronicity can be delightful, powerful, even numinous.

giovanni & ribsy (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:32 (sixteen years ago)

Yes Tuomas I agree with you too and I think that's what I was trying to say (albeit less eloquently) in my revive. I'm sure it's that I'm noticing these things or connections because of what I'm currently dealing with and/or thinking about. I don't actually think they have any otherworldly significance at all but it's still interesting and a little weird.

ENBB, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:39 (sixteen years ago)

sure, though a psychological / humanist interpretation of synchronicity / omens / various and sundry weirdnesses doesn't necessarily diminish the effect it can have on you personally imo

giovanni & ribsy (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:45 (sixteen years ago)

Very true.

ENBB, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

not gonna big up THE SECRET or anything but one could do worse than to identify and focus on shit you want in your life, even it just amounts to you taking greater notice of opportunities already available to you and has nothing to do with The Universe Manifesting Your Greatest Desires or whatever the fuck

giovanni & ribsy (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:52 (sixteen years ago)

I know exactly what you're talking about, and I LOVE it when this happens. Even if it's utterly meaningless, it is very entertaining and always makes me happy.
