Another childhood hero gone. For every time the Road Runner beeped and the Coyote hurled over the cliff -- thanks, man.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 23 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ouch. What a beautiful man - his output was untouchable....people don't give cartoons enough credit....if your parents are selfish and cold, cartoons help raise you and come second only to best friends....the WBs did me good.....I think as true sweethearts like Chuck become fewer and all this edgy "intellectually deflowering" programming gets thrown all up in kids faces because "they can handle it! it's the 2k_!" reality!, little bastards won't even have a nice warm fun foundation to built their media experience on before they have a chance to get evil naturally....just dicks and tits and ass and cheeks and little narcissistic grubbs infesting the population with their shitty extreme haircuts from the get-go....the world is ending....it's just a theory.

Rest in peace, boss.

Ramosi, Saturday, 23 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Shit. Another piece of my childhood (and adulthood for that matter) taken away. His work had so much energy that it seemed he'd be indestructible too.

(Though having said that DG is trying to avoid making any 'Acme product backfiring' jokes)

I remember reading this review of a Chuck Jones retrospective in Chicago.

Ahhh, this guy was a genius. The timing and originality of those cartoons still amazes me - leaves Disney in the dust. They're still the funniest cartoons ever. He wasn't the only great cartoon director at Warners, but he was the best. A real loss.

Justyn Dillingham, Sunday, 24 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah, dear Chuck. The mightiest kid at heart. I hope I grow up to be just like him, someday.

Fare thee well.......

two years pass...
Is The White Seal sublime perfection or am I just being nostalgic as I watch it? Will my eventual kids balk at being forced to watch it instead of Shrek 4D? Am I a grumpy old man already???

seven years pass...

Would have been 100 today. Happy Birthday Chuck, and thanks for the Merrie Memories.

Whenever I see an RIP thread for someone I love, even if they've been dead for years, but initial reaction is always "man, what a bummer." Then I realize the person has been dead for years. Still a bummer, but the impact is somewhat lessened.

If you've not seen this, you should track it down:
