You can't beat a free sombrero! Olé!

Hard like armour, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 01:41 (eighteen years ago)

So, the 50 questions asked the most that people are afraid to ask. I would be afraid asking too many questions too. Especially of a gangologist.

two years pass...

Joe - do you really own that book? Is it actually informative? I'm doing some work related research and have a lot of questions that an expert gangologist might be able to assist with.

Thanks H - some good info there.

t(o_o)t (ENBB), Sunday, 14 March 2010 13:00 (fifteen years ago)

oh i was just joking--i am not sure if law enforcement-type info is reliable or what you are looking for. also i think knowgangs.com is pretty outdated.

harbl, Sunday, 14 March 2010 13:16 (fifteen years ago)

LOL Yeah, I got that and was joking as well. That said, it did have some basic description of the major groups/origins etc which is somewhat helpful.

Basically we work with a bunch of Bloods who are often in the building but for the first time ever some of my coworkers are working and engaging with MS 13 members who are now also sometimes in the building. MS and Bloods are rivals so we all need to be aware of who is affiliated with what and keep an eye out for any potential trouble. Mostly this stuff is kept out of the building but things have been heating up between MS and Bloods so we need to be aware of it right now. Also - we do street outreach too so that is important for that as well. So what I'm trying to figure out is which gangs are rivals and which are allies etc. We're going to cover this in a meeting next week but I find it pretty interesting so was just looking into it myself.

Anyway - that was probably boring and more info than you needed so sorry bout that.

i am intersted in these things too but i feel like it's impossible to get accurate info from the usual sources like tv, books, etc. i have seen every national geographic special about gangs and believe none of it. lol.

baltimore has tons of weird local gangs with stupid names but not as silly as these

Looks like a damn turd. smh

kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 14 March 2010 16:16 (fifteen years ago)

x-posts Yeah that's why I'm interested in this meeting because one of my coworkers deals exclusively with gangs so I'll trust him more than anything else.

We've got local ones too but not with such silly names either. As far as I can tell so far the big ones we're mainly dealing with are Bloods, MS-13, Latin Kings, 18th Street, TRG (Tiny Rascal Gang - OK that one is pretty silly), Sur-13, and VL plus the local ones that I don't know about yet.

It's weird though because like even if say a guy isn't repping any gang but his father was a LK then he is considered a Latin Prince (seriously) and may get involved if a fight breaks out. Also we run a transitional work program so all these guys (a 1/3 of which I'd say bang) are out together on work crews. Since most of them are trying to make changes in their lives it's mostly OK but once in a while shit happens. One of the guys I'm working currently has beef with a guy on his crew and I have a feeling it's because he's also a Blood but from a rival clique based in Boston (the city I'm working in is right next to boston but it might as well be on a different planet). So yeah I need to know these things in order to keep on top of any potential problems. Hopefully I'll learn more at that mtg next week.

I took a walk near my childhood home recently and was surprised to see that the gang names scrawled on building site hoardings are the same ones as when I was hanging out there 20+ years ago. We're not talking proper gangs here either, this is no ghetto - so far as I know all these guys do is a bit of graffiti and imagine themselves hardmen.

Memorial to a teenager killed in a gang fight nearly eight years ago in Revere, MA. The red bandannas are tied around the telephone pole because the kid was a Blood. Throughout the neighborhood single red bandannas are tied around street sings marking the gang's territory.

t(o_o)t (ENBB), Sunday, 14 March 2010 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

The kid was killed by TRG guys who dominate a certain area of Revere.
