and what, Thursday, 7 June 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

I vote Newt Gingrich. For the name.

blueski, Thursday, 7 June 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

I'm gonna vote for Rumored candidates. They are so mysterious!

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 7 June 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

This has to be a poll from another conservative site. One would think a "Draft Nader" campaign would have less traction among lefties than one to draft Alan Keyes.

kingfish, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

From Bush to Koch?

blueski, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

haha wait I didn't see this option:

* Former Representative Cynthia McKinney of Georgia

KUCINICH/GRAVEL 08

Will M., Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

srsly though, so many options and i don't know whether to pick seriously, or for the LOLs, or randomly, or vote for one of the "headers" :/

Will M., Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

Gee, ya think? I mean, given that E's c/p is from crazy righty sites/emails about 99% of the time?

sympathy "Cranky Old Man" vote for Gravel.

i'm voting Biden

gabbneb, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

anyhow I voted Richardon, just looking at that guy's face completely cracks me up now

J0hn D., Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

so, out of curiosity though: is there anybody on this list, anybody at all, about whom anybody here feels genuinely enthusiastic? like, "hell yes, that'll make an excellent President"? or is everybody like "ok I can probably vote for x, y or z without throwing up, so that's who gets my marble"

J0hn D., Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

it's a mötley crüe alright.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

i'd be excited if the Republican nominee was Ron Paul and the Democratic Kucinich

artdamages, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

John I've never felt "genuinely" enthusiastic about any presidential candidate except insofar as I thought they could beat the bad guys - I don't think that should be any kind of yardstick as to their potential effectiveness/competence/progressiveness as president, though - these are politicians we're talkin about here

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, we don't live in the kind of world where Marian Wright Edelman or Martin Luther King run for president, you know?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

i just want interesting candidates. can you imagine how boring hilary/romney debates would be?

artdamages, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

I love Barack Obama, Jr. unreservedly and would follow him anywhere or purchase from him major civic landmarks.

gabbneb, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

why?

artdamages, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

J0hn D., Thursday, 7 June 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

I'm Hillary-leaning right now. She seems to have the best combination of experience, competence, intelligence, toughness and general belief in stuff I also believe in, even though I don't find her eminently *likable* or *inspiring*. I really don't care if we get someone inspiring right now.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for Barack Obama, because I like Barack Obama.

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

I like him too, but that's not enough for me. Obviously I'd vote for him in a heartbeat if he got the nomination, but I have more confidence in Hillary's ability to make a good president right now.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:40 (eighteen years ago)

I guess there's an argument to be made for some kind of inspiring healer-person as president to get us out of our malaise. But my guess is we're not going to be completely coming out of our malaise next term no matter what - at best we'll just begin to recover.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

political dynasties = DUD.

that and the war are the main reason I find Hillary nigh intolerable.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

But we can never know whether Obama would have voted to authorize the war had he been in the senate.

and what, Thursday, 7 June 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

cynthia mckinney is frequently self-contradictory & needs to chill with the anti-israel shit, but so heroic in so many ways - campaigning to declassify files on 9/11 & the assassination of MLK, working for union & miners rights in africa, encouraging american distribution of international news instead of domestic propaganda, challenging sexism & racism in the house, & quoting pac while speaking at king memorial last year. her principles are a huge asset to congress & and im proud to say she represents GA.

http://blog.antidelusionist.com/2007/04/23/al-gores-slideshow.aspx

The slide I found particularly interesting/shocking/sad, was his new(?) slide containing a graph of human population growth over the past couple hundred-thousand years. It started off good. He pointed at the beginning of the graph, showing the population of humans on Earth from 200,000 years ago, and referred to the "rise of humans."

Cool beans. So he believes that Homo sapiens evolved from other hominid ancestors, right? Nope. In the very same breath, he then continued to explain that according to his religious beliefs, this "rise of humans" was God's creation of mankind - apparently 200,000 years ago. His graph then changed to include the caption "Adam & Eve" above this starting point.

and what, Friday, 8 June 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

ah, didn't think he was a Southern Baptist anymore.

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 8 June 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa, that's bizarre. When he said he thought God and evolution could co-exist, I always assumed he just meant in a vague "God is the prime mover" sort of way.

and i dunno, gore isn't "smarter" than edwards, clinton or obama? he was righter than they were about the war, earlier; he was righter than they were about the environment, WAY earlier

i'm still pissed about his support of gulf war I but then again his dad got voted out of congress mainly because of his opposition to the war in vietnam - plus iraq actually had invaded another country at that point

you dont think its hypocritical to be smugly championing your book about the 'assault on reason' while allowing that creationism should be taught in public schools?

and what, Saturday, 9 June 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/article1026182.ece

Even his Democratic rival Al Gore, who had acquired a reputation as the “Mr Science” of the Clinton administration, seemed reluctant to disturb this spurious equilibrium. On hearing the news from Kansas, candidate Gore said that although he personally favoured the teaching of evolution, “localities should be free to teach creationism as well”.

I tend to agree that creationism etc. should go ahead and be taught (as a belief) right alongside real science so that kids realize how fucking stupid and ridiculous ID is

TOMBOT, Thursday, 14 June 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

Richardson [re. mulish foreign relations]:

This president characterizes this--being stubborn isn't a foreign policy. And power without diplomacy is blank. I would focus my presidency on dealing with the real threats to America. International terrorism, nuclear proliferation. I've dealt directly with North Korea, & made the situation better. I would deal with issues like Darfur. Why is it that America does not care about Africa, about genocide, about issues relating to enormous amount of deaths that are brought forth by international poverty?

remy bean, Thursday, 14 June 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

"The real Romney is clearly an extraordinarily ambitious man with no perceivable political principle whatsover. He is the most intellectually dishonest human being in the history of politics."

and what, Thursday, 14 June 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

I tend to agree that creationism etc. should go ahead and be taught (as a belief) right alongside real science so that kids realize how fucking stupid and ridiculous ID is

Creationism is a philosophy while evolution is a theory resulting from scientific enquiry. As a result, creationism has nothing to do with science, although the philosophy department of your local public high-school may wish to include it as a counter-point to their discussion of existentialism.

Any candidate who does not understand what science is does not belong in the whitehouse, and that's the end of the argument. Haven't you all had enough with Bush not funding condom use in Africa because it's not in the bible?

Sam Brownback (link here http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/31/opinion/31brownback.html?ex=1181966400&en=7d2298929cd17168&ei=5070) and Gore are therefore off the table.

As for Gore being "right" about the environment, I hate to break it to you but his slideshow is not particularly representative of the scientific research.

humansuit, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

By the way I'm sick of all the Republicans. This guy Ron Paul is a "libertarian," except he opposes gay marriage and abortion, etc. So, he wants us to have the freedom to do what we wants, unless it makes him feel icky. That would be "republican," and it's a tired song. As for McCain, why does he have to meet with religious leaders? Fuck that.

I'm leaning toward Biden or Richardson for sure.
