Help with Voltage/Fuses/Electricity stuff - I think I fried my turntable

Is anyone here good with electricity stuff? Because I am a total idiot, I literally don't even know where to start on Google with this...

I just plugged my USA-purchased turntable (a little Numark PT-01, with voltage marked: Input: 120VAC, Output 12VAC) into an adapter for a UK socket (voltage marked "compatible with 240V"), and the power light went on for one second and then died. Now... nothing... In any other socket or with any other adapter (the adapter works fine with other stuff). It just seems dead.

I had been lead to believe the 2 voltages were compatible, based on other US stuff that I brought with me over here that work fine with those numbers, but this seemed to fry the thing.

The turntable is not made so that it can be opened up - there's no visible fuses or anything.

I guess my main question is: Did I ruin my little turntable? Should I just, you know, trash it?

do you have a multimeter?

lfam, Saturday, 9 June 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

you need to see how much voltage the adapter was passing

but i have one of those. the screws are recessed into the bottom.

try batteries

Wait, so this thing has an external power supply/transformer?

It's likely that the pwr supply is blown, but the turntable might be intact. lfam is right, you need to meter the adaptor to know for sure.

Actually, either that or go and buy a UK appropriate adapter with a 12VAC out for it if you're going to be there for a while.

If that doesn't work, YR SCRWD.

Thanks, guys. I will try to find a 12VAC adapter (shitty psuedo-electronics hardware store nearby didn't have one, but maybe something like Currys or PC World might). Failing that, I'll go for the batteries. Last resort: Finding secret surplus of money to use towards purchase of new fancy UK turntable.
