the problem with goth guys is that they all tend to have (in my limited experience) long nails, which creeps me the fuck out.

goth girls have the potential to be hot, whereas goth dudes are pretty much guaranteed to be ridiculous (sorry curtis ;_;)

the issue for me has to do with the extremely specialized nature and perhaps limitedness of the "goth" choice. i'm totally willing to grant the appeal of the aesthetic (its sexuality, the romanticism) and the resonance of its social ramifications (paganism, etc.), but its actualization in current society way more often than not feels restricted and cartoonish.

Yeah Remy has the right idea. I think some of you saying "ew not hot" are not getting the point. Anyone in whiteface and stupid piercings and neon blue fake ponyfalls/ridiclously OTT boots will inevitably look stupid, but I like to appreciate the asthetic more generally, so you can even bring in things like Kate Bush and Lisa Gerrard for eg.

i saw this movie not too long ago called gypsy 83 starring sara rue when she was still chubby about a goth chick and her gay goth friend who go on a roadtrip to some stevie nicks festival and on the way they pick up an amish dude and give him a goth makeover and dance around to the cure a lot and it was WAY ENTERTAINING

while i'm at work and looking reasonably normal i like to go up to goths and ask them "are you a goth? can you tell me what it means? what do you believe?" or even better have my fiftysomething co-worker do the same and stand within earshot.

i just realised something that hasn't been brought up yet.
i'm a total goth, but i don't dress like one at all. i only have maybe a couple pieces of black clothing. i just don't like expressing myself through my appearance at all. most of my clothes are from the gap. i just try to look nice. but, yeah. i'm a goth and i think i'm attractive. i guess i know that people like me can't be taken into account in this poll, though.

this whole thread is so confusing and saddening. i think we should have defined what the goth look is, at least for the sake of this thread, earlier on.

but yeah, your typical goth is ridiculous looking. goths that don't overdo it all with the make-up and everything = hotts. those photos of siouxsie and peter murphy. rowr.

Yeah I just wear t-shirts/jeans all the time. Closest I get to goth look is occasionally wearing eyeliner but I don't overdo that.
