I am still bothered by the existence of the KISS Coffeehouse.

The KISS Coffeehouse is "hotter than hell" but the signs prominently advertised its iced drinks.

I stood outside it and said, "This is completely bizarre." My father said, "Oh yeah, one of the KISS guys came down for the opening." And I said, "OK, that part makes sense, but the big picture is still batshit crazy."

I choked, I couldn't bring myself to go in, much less order a KISS Frappuccino.

Casuistry, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

I would expect leggy blondes or something?

wanko ergo sum, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 01:36 (eighteen years ago)

Well leggy something.

This abomination was my the subject of my first story for Heckler Spray.

It's more just a surprise as a weird match-up than anything else. I mean they've pushed crass marketing to the limits pretty much since the beginning, but they just don't have the kind of vibe I associate with coffeehouses. It's a bit like having an Anthrax Day Spa or something.

I will open the Slayer convalescent home for sick kittens.

Note that the person in this is wearing a Bauhaus t-shirt - see how far that KISS demographic stretchs?

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

It ain't that far of a stretch.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)

I also find this greatly disturbing. Gene Simmons is the living definition of douchebag.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

Every time I see something like this, I just want to grab the KISS Army by the heels of their moon boots and go NOW do you feel like you've been had yet?

But no. They'll go on another farewell tour in '09 with Scott Borland dressed up like Ace or something, VH-1 will devote a month of programming to them and call it "Kissember" or something, and all these putzes who heard "Love Gun" when they were nine and decided to act upon that feeling for the next thirty years will fill Alltel Arena, snapping shots of the band with their Nokia 3109 KISS cellphones.

I still find it hard to believe that they thought that incorporating the schutstaffel icon into their logo was a good idea.

Dear KISS Coffeehouse:

Please survive until the next time I am in Myrtle Beach (probably in another ten years). Then I will collect on my KISS Shot In The Dark.

Casuistry, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

What is this Myrtle Beach place anyway? And why haven't we got one in the UK?

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

you do, it's called Blackpool

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

I was gonna say, we have a ton of them.

Casuistry, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

I was in Myrtle Beach two weeks ago. Granted I was camping in the State Park and actively avoiding all the surrounding ridiculousness (apart from the gigantic minigolf courses), but now I wish I had seen this.

nickalicious, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

it totally makes sense that this is in Myrtle Beach

latebloomer, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

Nickalish, Did you go see Atalaya? That was interesting.
