A BBC reporter at the scene said the whole top floor of the building had been blown away and eyewitnesses say they heard an explosion.

Shit.

The building was being renovated, so my first thought is propane or acetylene.

Shit, this is my friend's building, where her entire business is based. Luckily she's only on the second floor.

Hazel Blears's deputy leadership election office is based there, too. Kind of a metaphor for her whole campaign, really.

Oh, and police say there's a man trapped inside. And there's some talk of people smelling gas before it went up.
