I love these things! They have now become my everyday, all purpose, any occasion footwear of choice.
Does anyone else (who's not a little kid) have a pair of these? I'm talking about the shoes with wheels in them that little kids are always wearing around the mall.

Do they do them in adult sizes, because I totaly want these (and to visit the Guggenheim)
― Ed, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)
Yes! Mine are size 11 U.S. 44.5 Eur.
― hypo emesis, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)
I am scared of them.
At first I thought you meant high-heeled shoes and I opened to see what kind of foot misery you had wrought upon yourself.
― Ms Misery, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah me too.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)
God I so want a pair of these. My heart is filled with joy anytime a kid's gliding around all casual in public.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)
They should put wheels into high-heeled shoes.
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:35 (eighteen years ago)
Guys, you should all get these. They’ve made the very act of walking somewhat less pedestrian!
I’ve not hurt myself; I’ve not even fallen down yet. They do take a bit of practice but once you get it down they are fantastic! Apart from sleeping, showering and standing up in a friends wedding I've worn these things pretty much nonstop since I got them back in February.
― hypo emesis, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)
I tried out a pair of these in a bar. That was fun.
― Andi Mags, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)
Hypo, you aren't Heely street team are you?
xpost
That sounds like probably the least safe place to try them ever.
― Ms Misery, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)
The spilled coke/beer coated in ashes probably provided a safe enough slip-free environment.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)
i really wanted a pair a few years ago but couldn't find them in grown up sizes. maybe i'll have to look again.
p.s. i think you should have worn them to the wedding. anyone that wears heelies at my wedding gets extra cake.
― colette, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)
I've got a pair of these. It's kinda hard to get momentum going on them, I find. Once I've got going, I can't seem to just add a bit of extra speed, like you would on skates by, er, skating a bit. I whizz to a halt and have to push off again. Is this the same for everyone?
― stet, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)
The other day I was in my local and two of the kids of the next door liquor store owner went by on their heelies, their feet obscured by the wall below the window. The looked like they were floating by. One of the other patrons, staring bleary-eyed out the window, saw them and afterwards looked, with a mixture of disbelief and alarm, down at his drink for a second.

mostly 'cause of how much they drop, right?

That's like a cartoon or something. . .

xpost No, I'm not Heely street team. I have nothing to do with them apart from owning a pair. I've been here a while I just rarely post.
I actually almost started a thread about unicycles because I went for a ride on mine last night for the first time in ages, but I picked this because I've not seen any other adults scooting around on these things, and wondered if anyone else had them.

Someone put the Snorg girl in that picture.
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)
i bet you snorg girl could write a wicked blog entry on heelys if prompted.
― gr8080, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)
The boy says the trick to getting used to these is to walk on your heels for awhile in regular shoes to get used to carrying your weight back there.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)
The best floors for these are grocery store floors, apparently.

I brought them to the wedding, but I opted for the plasticy shoes that came with the tux when I saw the look on the Brides face when I suggested that the bridesmaid I was walking down the aisle with, could instead just pull me along on my wheels.
I can't seem to just add a bit of extra speed, like you would on skates by, er, skating a bit. I whizz to a halt and have to push off again. Is this the same for everyone?
Yeah, you can't really push off on these like you would with roller skates/blades. I tend to just run a bit on my toes and then jump up and land on both heels, then when I'm starting to slow down I take a step or two and jump up again.
― hypo emesis, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)
Ideally you would have objects in your surrounding environment you could grab and push or pull yourself along with. I bet you could rig something sweet up akin to a walker or ski poles.
