OK, time to go to bed and sober up.

John Justen, Friday, 15 June 2007 05:36 (eighteen years ago)

Isn't Vin Diesel in this?

Alex in SF, Friday, 15 June 2007 05:38 (eighteen years ago)

Yup, does the voice.

kingfish, Friday, 15 June 2007 06:02 (eighteen years ago)

SUPER FUCKING WICKED AWESOME

OTM!!!

One of the best films ever!

kv_nol, Friday, 15 June 2007 08:55 (eighteen years ago)

Sadly I had to pick I HAVE'NT SEEN THIS, AND IN THIS WAY I HAVE WASTED MY LIFE. And I suspect this is true.

Trayce, Friday, 15 June 2007 09:25 (eighteen years ago)

I like the Ted Hughes book tho.

Trayce, Friday, 15 June 2007 09:25 (eighteen years ago)

Great.

I wd marry the beatnik.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

I like the Ted Hughes book tho.

It bears little relation, aside from the fact that they're both really really good.

chap, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:33 (eighteen years ago)

this is the only thing jennifer aniston has ever been in that has been good. actually i will say the same thing about vin diesel as well.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 15 June 2007 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

Pitch Black is watchable. IG towers over it, obviously.

chap, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'll vote for anything with Vin Diesel in it, duh. Pitch Black RULEZ.

Laurel, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

this movie makes me cry every time.

jessie monster, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

Pitch Black may very well be good, but Chronicles of Riddick was the dumbest damn thing I've ever seen. My date got mad at me for laughing during it.

jessie monster, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

it is wicked sad

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 15 June 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

I finally saw this a month or so ago. Pretty great - but it made me cry. I also enjoyed my daughter's summary of it before I watched: "First the robot is BAD, then he's GOOD, then he's BAD, then he's GOOD!!!"

Sara R-C, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

Your daughter is learning a lot about robots. This should be classified as an educational film.

John Justen, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

guys I never saw this ;_;

HI DERE, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 15 June 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

When I saw it in the cinema, a kid behind me went "is da iron giant going to be alright?" at that bit near the end, and it just about broke my heart.

chap, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

blueski, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

I doubt any other movie I've ever seen moves me as much as this one, and I'm pretty sure I truly mean that, this is not typical ilx omg hyperbole.

The decor in his pad is k-hilarious, a big poster that says KEROUAC and a record labeled Jazz Record.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 15 June 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Friday, 15 June 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

One of my best friends in Boston sang with Ron Livingston as an undergrad. Apparently he is a "wonderful baritone".

HI DERE, Saturday, 16 June 2007 01:47 (eighteen years ago)

only wicked awesome :(

but the bit where he becomes a gun was like some sort of MASSIVE PARADIGM SHIFT in kids' movies, in the manner of General Woundwort's Watership Down appearance.

Just got offed, Saturday, 16 June 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

BRITISHER, YOU DON'T KNOW SUPER FUCKING WICKED AWESOME FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND.

John Justen, Saturday, 16 June 2007 07:33 (eighteen years ago)

rewatched, holds up nicely. what animated '90s film can touch it?

(no anime plz)

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 18 August 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

By "anime" do you mean Miyazaki? Because I'd put Totoro at least in the Iron Giant's class.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Saturday, 18 August 2012 16:08 (thirteen years ago)

But also, I picked up a used copy of IG for 5 bucks the other week and my kids watched it about 6 times in a row. So yeah, it holds up even for post-millennial babies.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Saturday, 18 August 2012 16:09 (thirteen years ago)

Iron Giant is so good. I've got a pretty big movie collection, so neighbors are always borrowing stuff from me. One day, my neighbor Kevin asked me for a family movie night recommendation, so I suggested E.T., which is old enough at this point that a lot of kids haven't seen it. He told me his wife hates E.T. (because it makes her cry). So I gave him The Iron Giant instead and just told him not to tell his wife it's basically E.T..

i first fell in love with it bc of the yearly marathon CN would do (i'm sure i'm not alone in that). for some reason it's weirdly easy to spend an entire day watching it on repeat.
