jhøshea, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

ghost rider, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

Life Aquatic and Elizabeth are good, leaving aside the whole LOTR controversy.

chap, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)

The Good German wasn't bad.

o. nate, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)

HI DERE, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:46 (eighteen years ago)

David R., Friday, 15 June 2007 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

"Elizabeth" is Exhibit A of CB Being Great In Shit Movies, wtf

No, you're thinking of The Aviator.

chap, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, I was thinking of Pushing Tin.

You can understand how I got those confused.

David R., Friday, 15 June 2007 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

Dude you rep for Julianne Moore, you know I can't trust your judgement on movies.

HI DERE, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

I remember liking An Ideal Husband when it came out, but Minnie Driver beats her anyday.

Tuomas, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)

Okay Mr Crazypants.

HI DERE, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

jhøshea, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:56 (eighteen years ago)

(x-post)

Tuomas, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

what have i brought upon ilx with these polls.

i voted for hot fuzz, which is objectively speaking by far the best movie in that list of movies, though i had no idea she was in it at all even for a second.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 15 June 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

Everyone who is batshit insane loves Julianne Moore, yes.

HI DERE, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

(Also I haven't seen "Hot Fuzz" yet so I might have voted for that.)

HI DERE, Friday, 15 June 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)

oh dan, you HAVE to see hot fuzz, you would love it.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 15 June 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

I GUESS I AM CAPTAIN BATSHIT

Mr. Que, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

Dan's mission for the weekend: rent Hot Fuzz and Toy Story.

chap, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:04 (eighteen years ago)

mr. que, everyone already knew that.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 15 June 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

hot fuzz is great

latebloomer, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)

if The Talented Mr. Ripley is the best movie in your CV, you've got problems. (Hot Fuzz doesn't count)

milo z, Friday, 15 June 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

Voting 'Heaven' just over 'Little Fish'.

SeekAltRoute, Friday, 15 June 2007 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

five months pass...

charlotte gray is terrible, but cate is outrageously hot in it, so i vote that.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

funny that her big "whoa acting chops" moments are...impersonations. that's gotta be unprecedented, for an actress

gff, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

she was the redeeming feature of 'the aviator'.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

hey don't forget kate beckinsale

gff, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

and...alan alda

gff, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:35 (eighteen years ago)

i don't know if you're kidding there, but yeah beckinsale a++ would smash, let's face it.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:35 (eighteen years ago)

beckinsale is so beautiful she's like a porcelain doll

Surmounter, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

SEXIST

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

thomson was being sexist by saying 'hmm i dunno if she can act but she sure is pretty'. i'm saying i don't think beckinsale can act well. blanchett can, but she's too drawn to oscarbait pix.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

she has the one semi-not-awful scene of Coffee & Cigarettes

milo z, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

^^ yeah that's a move where she's def the only redeeming thing, and barely. it's a really impressive acting set piece but it's just on the edge of being as unwatchable as the rest

gff, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

thomson was being sexist by saying 'hmm i dunno if she can act but she sure is pretty'

Can you explain why thinking someone's hot instead of lying about their acting talent is sexist?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

cos saying 'hmm i dunno if she can' is giving a pretty girl who clearly and definitely can not act a big pass?

gff, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

er i guess i could let nrq explain himself, ha

gff, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

no he was saying he literally *didn't know* whether she could act, but photographed well -- but hey that's all you need in an actress.

crossposts

i actually think she *can* act, and is pretty.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

i wonder if she was one of the CLASSY LADIES

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

stay tuned for CLASSY LADIES PART 9: JENNY MCCARTHY

milo z, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

It's amazing how good she managed to be in Pushing Tin.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

is that the Kevin Costner golf movie?

milo z, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:59 (eighteen years ago)

Pushing Tin Cup?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

NYT's Brantley over the moon about her Blanche in Streetcar Named Desire -- directed by Liv Ullmann!

http://theater.nytimes.com/2009/12/03/theater/reviews/03streetcar.html?ref=arts

Of course I didn't even think about scraping up funds for a ticket, since theatre at BAM usually gets horrible reviews.

Feingold/Kaptur 2012 (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:05 (sixteen years ago)

ten years pass...

Second episode of Mrs. America tonight. The three principals are drawn well: Blanchett as Phyllis Schlafly, Rose Byrne as Gloria Steinham, Margo Martindale as Bella Abzug. (Blanchett's Schlafly seems to be conceived in the shadow of Reagan: spouting mush, but media friendly and tactically formidable.) So far very Mad Men-like in that each episode ends with a musical flourish: Mama Cass's "Make Your Own Kind of Music" last week, the Kinks' "This Time Tomorrow" tonight (which may have been an homage to Philippe Garrel's The Regular Lovers).
