Paine's not really considered a Founding Father, is he...? He didn't sign the Declaration or the Constitution, was not an elected representative of anybody etc.

anyway if we're including ny old influential colonial-era personage and not just signatories, my vote definitely goes to my hero Roger Williams

Glaring omission from this poll: Sam Adams.

kenan, Friday, 15 June 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

i misread this as fondling fathers.

stevienixed, Friday, 15 June 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

same thing

kenan, Friday, 15 June 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

Foundling fathers: like every Disney father figure, it's only uncles taking in their foundling nephews.

totally between Washington, Jefferson, and Hamilton. Hamilton wins because he was the smartest.

FRANKLIN.

elmo argonaut, Friday, 15 June 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

I've got more affection for Adams after his selected writings were published a few years ago, and he pwns Jefferson in their correspondence. Still a shitty president though, despite being temperamentally immune to war fever.

I have near-religious adoration of Ben Franklin, I even have a painting of Ben Franklin With A Third Eye hanging over my bed.

Hamilton scares me a little.

In terms of the long run consequences, I'm going with Madison.

Hamilton is classic for his writing and letters until the end of the first Washington administration -- then goes mad.
