I remember there being this awesome driver's perspective racing game -- maybe late 80s or early 90s -- where you could also fire guns at the other cars. I think there were both triggers and thumb-buttons on the steering wheel. That's all I got

gotta be lucky & wild.

haitch, Monday, 18 June 2007 05:41 (eighteen years ago)

link

haitch, Monday, 18 June 2007 05:41 (eighteen years ago)

Nope - the guns were built into the car and the triggers and buttons were on the steering wheel.

Hurting 2, Monday, 18 June 2007 05:52 (eighteen years ago)

chase HQ sequel, SCI? don't remember triggers but there were definitely buttons to shoot the baddies. (there's a third in that series too, but i've never seen it.)

haitch, Monday, 18 June 2007 06:01 (eighteen years ago)

Nope, not it. I think it didn't have a regular-shaped steering wheel either.

I'm not sure what this dude's point was in making the video, but if you want to remember what the gameplay was like, here it is.

Hurting 2, Monday, 18 June 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

My earliest memory of this game was some holiday park in Wales, i was about 10 or 11.

I could never ever EVER manage to pick up the power up gun that dropped from the choppers.

Ste, Monday, 18 June 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

I particularly liked it because I'm generally bad at driving games and it wasn't that hard to stay on the road in this one.

Hurting 2, Monday, 18 June 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

Cheers Ste! Hey how about this version:

http://i17.tinypic.com/67627wy.jpg

ah the old tilt 'n' shift chestnut.

ledge, Monday, 18 June 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

weird, that looks like a toy van now.

Ste, Monday, 18 June 2007 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

Aye, that's the idea. Works better with longer shots though. There was a thread on it...
It looks like a miniature trainset but really, oh that one really is: Olivo Barbieri and fake tilt-shifting photos

ledge, Monday, 18 June 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

I loved SCI. Roadblasters was fun, too.

Trip Maker, Monday, 18 June 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

those pics are so cool, so gonna try this when i get home.

Ste, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

i remembe the speccy version of this game being not so bad, as was the Chase HQ conversion. The Amiga one was dog poo tho.

Ste, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

So I messed about with that photo trick, and got this:

But yeah, it got boring after only a few pictures. That masking and blurring technique has other potential though.

Ste, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 09:31 (eighteen years ago)

hurting, if you want to play it again, there's a computer repair store in BK that has one:
http://www.mikeyshookup.com/

but maybe call ahead to see if it's still there

sanskrit, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 18:13 (eighteen years ago)

Exactly like the original except the jumping's fucked if you're against a gravestone and you end up jumping straight up and dying.

onimo, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

Spy Hunter.

I did not read any answers. That's how confident I am.

At least read the question: driver's perspective racing game

onimo, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

That's how I roll.

dean ge, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

one arcade game i truly miss is 720

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

One of my favorite things about Road Blasters is the satisfying "BAP!" sound you hear when shooting a biker.

Also love the roof mounted nuke launcher that wasted everything except for the little ghosts of enemy cars.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

I really love this game.

John Justen, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

Spy Hunter? Come on, that game was ubiquitous - my memory's not THAT bad.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

hey that Ghosts n Goblins one is only the first level! Lame

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 21 June 2007 03:48 (eighteen years ago)
