Memento to take this one, but I vote Insomnia.

batman. memento is irritating.

gff, Monday, 18 June 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

I think this is tougher than most. I was impressed with Memento, liked the psychological elements of Insomnia but probably enjoyed Batman more than either. Following is great but haven't seen it for years. Black and whiote and weird from what I remember. gonna watch the prestige tomorrow.

The Prestige was a movie that ended up being something COMPLETELY different from what I expected going in; also probably the most unsettling, in a career pretty much built around unsettling.

I like em all but might go with Prestige as well actually

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 18 June 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

I like Insomnia best. He reminds me of Soderbergh: he's more interesting when he doesn't work so hard.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 18 June 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

I really appreciate his aptitude for exploring different themes from film to film, even though they all work within fairly stylized thriller/crime genre conventions.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 18 June 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

I'm voting for Insomnia too. Great acting, great location.

Eazy, Monday, 18 June 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

Batman Begins because nothing is better than watching Morgan Freeman wrinkle himself up in a knowing smirk.

The Macallan 18 Year, Monday, 18 June 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

Memento then Following. His other films are meh (Prestige is so so so much better than the Illusionist though!)

Alex in SF, Monday, 18 June 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

Memento is technically more interesting, but I voted for Batman because it's so much fun. Prestige is really overrated - quite a ridiculous story dressed up in sombre, self-important trappings (one could say the same about Batman, but hey).

But I loved the reveal in Prestige (of Bale's trick) - I so didn't see it coming 'cause a) I am dumb and ii) I was cynically expecting there to be some supernatural or deus ex machina explanation (like there was for Jackman's trick but hey), so when there was a proper clever realistic explanation, that also meant you had to re-evaluate everything you'd seen prior to that point - yeah. That was awesome.

i liked Insomnia and utterly loathed Batman Begins and Memento.

darraghmac, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 12:42 (eighteen years ago)

no.

jed_, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 12:44 (eighteen years ago)

batman, insomnia, and the prestige are ALL better films than memento.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 20 June 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

just saw memento again last night - irritating

the prestige was phenomenal

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

prestige entertaining but an overblown mess. memento much tighter, sharper, better.

darraghmac, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

all of you are wrong and 'following' for the win (even though i really like all of these)

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

tighter and sharper isn't always better, like with socks for instance

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

I enjoyed watching the Prestige more than any other movie I can think of in the past few years -- it's a lot of old ropey nonsense and the ending is v. silly, of course. But it's just massively fun.

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

I have to vote Prestige, if for nothing else than the moment when my mom and I turned to one another and whisper-shouted at the exact same time "BOWIE IS TESLA!"

en i see kay, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

Yes -- exactly. It's a pretty horrible Bowie performance, but it's very entertaining. And mildly creepy.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)
