i don't think it's very nice to judge people on their appearance

Most of my 'Amber and Alice' pics are hosted on photobucvket, but I've not had any images blanked as yet.

I made mention of this when I posted on the road-movie thread the other day. I'm happy that I used my homepage for all images on the three polls I've run here (Tripod...that too shall pass soon, I imagine), but I've used Photobucket for stray images all over the place. Is there anyone insane enough to actually pay the $400 they're asking?

i used to use Photobucket for ILX-related image hosting, have noticed other people's pics already disappearing from threads today, sic transit gloria internet

well as long as it's only "third-party hosting" then i'm sure Photobucket still has a brilliant business model with loads of uses

Got an e-mail from them yesterday explaining what's going on (but no actual dollar figure anywhere in the e-mail). Very timely. Couldn't resist responding: "Add me to the overwhelming chorus of people laughing at you."

four years pass...

I get an e-mail from them every day: "Warning: Do you want to keep your photos?" They want $5 a month. Not much, and maybe if they weren't so pushy I'd pay. But it's ransom in any event. A documentary poll I did on here 10 years ago would look pretty ugly if they follow through, but I can't think of anything else that would be much affected.

two months pass...

Same as previous post a year ago, but a little bit different: no exaggeration, I've gotten 50 e-mails the past couple of months with the subject line "Do you want to keep your photos?" They're like the parent who says "I'm counting to five" and then starts filling in every conceivable fraction between 4 and 5 till you relent.

Hahaha. I'm actually impressed, Photobucket. Nice work.

Anyway. If you don't want to see your family album morphed into a Roger Dean painting, you have until Monday to delete your account.
