It's not good, but the acronym is good.

Alex in SF, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sure I saw this at some point in my youth, but all I can remember of it is the movie poster

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

This is on the new AFI list, right?

kenan, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

xpost

same thing here. i know i saw it but that's about it

carne asada, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

which means it must actually be WORSE than all the horror movies I DO remember from my youth like Piranha II and Prom Night.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

Piranha scared me as a kid.

carne asada, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

dude in the second one THEY FLY

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

first one is actually pretty great! One of John Sayles' better scripts, honestly.

Whitney: The piranhas...
Buck Gardner: What about the goddamn piranhas?
Whitney: They're eating the guests, sir.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

it's great that she saw fit to address the guy as sir, while the fish eats the guests

carne asada, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

C.H.U.D. IS A CLASSIC

homosexual II, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

ALMOST AS GOOD AS THEY LIVE

homosexual II, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

AND/OR THE STUFF

homosexual II, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

Uh no way.

Alex in SF, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

daniel stern is pretty great in this imho

The Macallan 18 Year, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)

The DVD version sounds better than the version I rented years ago actually.

Alex in SF, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:32 (eighteen years ago)

THEY LIVE is better for many reasons butprimarily the extended bro-down throw-down between Roddy Piper and Keith 'I didn't take it out for air' David.

The Macallan 18 Year, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

wtf that's the worst scene in that movie!

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)

RONG

The Macallan 18 Year, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

dudes is WRASSLIN

The Macallan 18 Year, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

"wtf that's the worst scene in that movie!"

Wait you think the "PUT ON THE SUNGLASSES NO I WON'T PUT ON THE SUNGLASSES" *PUNCH* *KICK* *BITE* "NO YOU'LL PUT EM ON NO I WON'T" *GROIN PUNCH* *APPENDECTOMY* "YES FINALLY YOU ARE WEARING THEM NO I'M NOT" *CLOTHESLINE* *GRUNTING* *SWEATING* "OKAY YOU ARE RIGHT THIS IS WEIRD" scene is the worst scene in the movie?

Alex in SF, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

transcription isn't long enough

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 22 June 2007 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

True.

Alex in SF, Friday, 22 June 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

if I have to watch a bunch of wrasslin I prefer it be of the freeze-dried blondes in spandex (a la G.L.O.W.) variety

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 22 June 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

Piranha scared me as a kid.

the only film I've ever walked out of... because I was too frightened by it. It was being shown in my local church hall as the sunday afternoon kids film show... the priest said at Mass that it was going to be "King Kong"... he lied.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Sunday, 24 June 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

CHUD, meanwhile, is a film I have never seen, but "CHUD!" is a common greeting among my friends, particularly those who like to play Call of Cthulhu.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Sunday, 24 June 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

CHUD is OK -- not great, but not embarrassingly bad. i found it funny b/c i first saw it just after home alone came out, and i found it humorous to see daniel stern in a straight/serious role.

the sequel -- BUD THE CHUD -- is just dumb. trying TOO hard to be funny.

Eisbaer, Sunday, 24 June 2007 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

The new-ish film the Descent was pretty lame and the monsters looked like CHUDs.

S-, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 02:34 (eighteen years ago)

But I heard The Descent was incredibly scary!

I think there is something intrinsically very scary about chudlike monsters - shambling degenerate humanoids who live only for human flesh, who have no interaction with their surface dwelling fellows save to satisfy their hunger or, worse, their bestial lusts.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

"because I used to be a nuclear physicist!" = best line in whole movie

inexplicable people who appear in CHUD:

- John Goodman
- Jay Thomas
- the corrupt cop from the first couple seasons of the Sopranos

this movie is really an overlooked gem. I think it might have been John Goodman's first film.

sarahel, Monday, 2 November 2009 18:01 (sixteen years ago)

wife wanted to watch Creepshow on Halloween but it was checked out so I got this instead

one less mouth to feed is one less mouth to feed (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 2 November 2009 18:02 (sixteen years ago)

best story in Creepshow?
"Father's Day"
"The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill"
"Something to Tide You Over"
"The Crate"
"They're Creeping Up On You!"

carne asada, Monday, 2 November 2009 18:09 (sixteen years ago)

The Crate monster scared the crap out of me.

carne asada, Monday, 2 November 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

will see it when it gets back into the store and report back... off the top of my head the Tide one seems like the best but I dunno.
