The mushrooms at the end: WTF?!
― Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 24 June 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, I know, aging boomers, surprise, surprise, but I'm still a little surprised at how blatant it is coming from a car company. (The banner ad I saw for this had something about "trippin'" on it.)

They have a history of this though:

The most surprising thing about it is how little the ad fits the van. Maybe that's the joke? I don't even know anymore?

yeah its just a mini van (thinking thats not the joke).

I just went to "Summer of Love" at the Whitney. I was debating whether to start a thread about it - mixed feelings about the exhibition, but I kind of knew it would be that way before I went in.

marketing a van at americans is pretty subversive to start with in 2007
a cursory reading of malcolm gladwell should have told us that

It's an especially plain looking minivan too.

I dreamed I {insert fantasy here} in my Playtex maidenform bra. Advertising 101 - the product isn't the product, the ad is the product.

Yeah, but at least a bra's got boobs in it.

Target ads do a much better job with the '60s signifiers, but I suppose those are aimed at younger people whereas lame mushrooms dancing are aimed at some lowest common denominator.
