i don't think so. anyway, i really liked it while seeing it,though afterwards i thought maybe it was kinda kitschy in a sophisticated way. a sort of a musical, but not really, cause the songs are a realistic part of the narrative,i think the main power of the movie (that was a fan favourite in sandence) is the contradiction between the unability of the couple (and everybody else for that matter)to communicate through "real" conversation, and the true, moving, deep feelings expressed in the songs that they write and sing to each other. this conflict is also expressed in the realistic, simple form of the direction, while the art of music is giving the characters a true spirit and meaning to their life. it's a one trick pony sort of a movie, but it works, and it's short enough for the viewer not to start to get pissed off about it,and about,as i said, the kitschy "love story" it presents.

Saw it, thought it was shit. Hate The Frames, hated his voice, hated the awful tweeness of it all, hated the fact that everyone watching it was going "ooh look there's Fitzsimons", hated the music in it, hated the dire end, hated the godawful moment after studio, hated the "hey this ain't bad" moment in the studio, hated how long it was, hated the fact that I had paid for a ticket, hated sort of a musical, but not really make up your mind you shit film, hated the true, moving, deep feelings expressed in the songs that they write and sing to each other because they totally weren't worth the feelings (and weren't true anyway, they SPOILER don't stay together do they?SPOILER ENDS. Actually you (the art of music is giving the characters a true spirit and meaning to their life) have managed to point out everything I hated about this film, almost.
it's a one trick pony sort of a movie, but it works. No it doesn't for all of the reasons above and the fact that what should have been a straightforward rubbish film became total crap through needless length, characterization and plot. Soundtrack was total shit as well.
it's short enough for the viewer not to start to get pissed off about it LOOOOOL
Everyone else I was with liked it though. So now I hate them too.
VERY IMPORTANT: I don't hate you! Just the film.

thanks for not hating me, i have to say, my friend who saw it wite me, thougt it was boring,(he didn't hate it though). but i can understand your point of view.i just happend to choose the opposite one. maybe it's just my weepie melodramatic taste in films - the reason why i liked it. than again,at least it's not as pretentious as the "dancer in the dark" musical by Von Trier.

s1ocki, it's just once. As in I felt that this film might be good ONCE, I was soon disappointed.

"think this is the kind of movie ilx would tear to shreds "
yeah, being cynic and enjoying this movie is a kind of contradiction
― Zeno, Thursday, 28 June 2007 10:48 (eighteen years ago)
No, you could be cynical and have a bad taste in music. You'd probably enjoy it then.

it's not the sort of music i'd listen to at home, but i like the movie ok

I thought the movie was alright, but I saw it the day after Spiderman 3 so it might have just been a comparison issue.
The most noticable flaw to me was that everybody was encouraging this guy to run away to London and be a musician. Was there no friend in his life who could've discreetly pulled him aside and said "Look, there's a good solid future in the vacuum shop. People will always have dirty floors and those damn machines are always breaking down. Don't waste your life, mate!" No, everybody was like "Run away to London, folk guy! You have talent!"
