anthony, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i think they were quite right to cut it! once i found out how long he'd rambled on for i could (almost) forgive Halle Berry looking like she'd been sucking on a chili-soaked thistle every time the camera rested on her - she must have been bored shitless. there's NOTHING WORSE than impromptu poetry readings - the cringe factor soars.

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

or, in this case, clearly not impromptu since he'd prepared it beforehand. arrgh self-indulgent twaddle.

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He called out the producer, Malcolm Gerrie, who did things like The White Room (music show) in the mid-'90s and who various friends praise as someone good to work with. Crowe was bang out of order, telling Gerrie he'd never work in Hollywood if he had anything to do with it. The TRULY lame part is that Crowe sent his bodyguards over to Gerrie to say that 'Russell wants a word' etc. So good old Gluteus Maximus is a bit of a bully. Yuck. I hope Hollywood types call in MG for a few meetings as a result, just to prang RC.

suzy, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if RC gets an oscar i shall cry. with boredom.

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He's a method actor, he must be preping a new role. Perhaps, "the Russel Crowe Story"...

Is that him in that country music band sailing around on a yacht?

j>e>l, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Apparently the security at the Baftas asked MG if he wanted the police called and Crowe arrested. He declined.

suzy, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

for some reason i thought you meant Duran Duran then!

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

b-but surely Warren Beatty was far worse!!

turner, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I had a dream about Nicole Kidman again.

N., Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(I'm sorry Nick, you walked into this...)

Hmm, messy sheets again?

suzy, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DAMN suzy got there first! :) though, RickyT said that N. would be devestated by the blonde-ness of Nicole's hair... is this the case, N.?

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's complicated. I do prefer it a bit redder but bear in mind that part of the reason I am keen on red hair is Nicole Kidman, rather than the other way around.

N., Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

observe the twisted workings of the mind of N.!! :) i think she looks much better with red hair meself. getting back to the subject of speeches though, yes Warren Beatty didn't half ramble on. i wish they'd cut him too though i suppose he was getting a lifetime achievement thingy and you have to let the old ones reminisce (sp. probably) etc etc... apparently Crowe said "who had the fucking audacity to cut the best actor's poem?" if his head were any bigger etc etc...

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Has anyone else seen the horror that is his pop video yet? It's set on a boat and it's shite.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is this what jel was talking about and i thought was Duran Duran, or warren beatty?

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You confused jel with Duran Duran??

N., Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that's the one, turgid shite indeed. As a clue to how poor it is, they show it on the Magic channel.

chris, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

[I'm fine with the jel-Warren Beatty confusion]

N., Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

b-b-b-but i love Duran Duran! *cries*

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The video is a bit more Howard's Way than Rio.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought it was the greatest news story I ever read, that's so great that he threw a hissy fit cos they wouldn't let him read poetry, I mean jesus christ. I wish Russell Crowe was in Duran Duran.

Ally, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

does anyone else think that Russell Crowe mings? i cannot imagine ever finding him attractive, and doubly so with that beard. there are No Beards in Duran Duran! Ally how could you!

katie, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

God, he is totally mingy Katie, he is the roughest bloke in the world! (nearly) He isn't sexy at all, women these days must be on crack.

Emma, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Seconded. The phrase 'St Bernard drooling over a whisky barrel attached at the collar' doth spring to mind. Apparently RC was kibitzing with Richard Harris about the nature of being an acTOR (trans: getting pished, methinks) and that's when he had the brilliant poetry idea. You could get away with such things if you were RH or similar (I am that person happy to listen to Peter O'Toole orate the fucking phone book) but it just goes to show RCs real place on the thesbo totem pole.

suzy, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

russ says he is moving from los angeles cause they won't allow him to smoke enough there and he has been smoking since he was ten.

keith, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't wait for his face to turn yellow, his voice to go...

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

russ says he is moving from los angeles cause they won't allow him to smoke enough there and he has been smoking since he was ten.

Oh, so he's moving to North Carolina?

Brian MacDonald, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I feel I should say something.

j>e>l, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Exactly. Suzy is bang OTM. If it had been Harris I'd probably have thought "Fantastic, go on Harris" but this is probably because I'm a hypocrite. I don't think Harris would have stooped to vulgar threats though.

Tom, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But stooping to Vulgar Threats (TM) is the best thing about Russell Crowe.

Ally, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

vulgar threats=sing his new single

Billy Dods, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That one song they do is brilliant, what is it, Photographs Kill or something ridiculous like that, Photographer Lie? I have no fucking clue, but I saw like 2 seconds of it and it was brilliant.

ALly, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the show biz world needs a big dumb pretentious bully actor asshole now that Oliver Reed's gone. "Go Russell! Go Russell! Go Russell!"

Also, I blame Courtney.

Arthur, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

watch it arthur - you know not the goddess you mess with when mixing courtney and russell

Queen G, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No way should Russell Crowe ever be in Duran -- the man has no flair. He looked like he was trying out for Duran at last year's Oscars, but it was obvious that he was Trying Too Hard.

Even Warren Cucurullo is more Duran than Russell, and really he's not very Duran at all.

Nicole, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah, I forget that fancy dan bow. I think it was more Spandau than Duran though.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe he should be on Eastenders then instead of turgid crap like A Beautiful Mind.

Nicole, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
