Is that a rare pre-war blender/mixer/drill press?

It's chipped off paint, right? But some *fungus* as well?

nathalie, Thursday, 5 July 2007 07:30 (seventeen years ago)

There's a decent gin lurking in the background

Matt, Thursday, 5 July 2007 07:56 (seventeen years ago)

Chipped off paint indeed although there was a little mildew on the baseplate. It is a 60s or 70s vintage kenwood chef that used to belong to my grandmother, I've just hauled it out of storage now I have a bit more space. To inaugurate it I stripped it down and cleaned it (I've ordered some new grease and seals a well. The motor smells like it is on it's last legs but that can be replaced too if ever I work out how to free it (It smells like dirty brushes so a brush clean may fix it).

do you have all the pots and whateveryoucallit? Looks great actually. Or rather, promising. :-)

nathalie, Thursday, 5 July 2007 08:19 (seventeen years ago)

Two bowls, a whisk, a mixer, a liquidiser/blender attachment, a mincer and a slicer shredder. No dough hook though.

Ed, Thursday, 5 July 2007 08:20 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure eBay could be your friend on that score.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:24 (seventeen years ago)

undoubtedly, although if I do that I may end up with pasta extruder, bowl cuter and potato peeler as well,

I've had such difficulty with dough hooks. Maybe my mixmaster is a bit flimsy but the minute the dough becomes elastic, the mixer struggles like buggery. I guess this is why one needs industrial strength machines to do such work? I hate kneading by hand (weak wrists) but it still works better than a machine with what I have.

Trayce, Friday, 6 July 2007 07:25 (seventeen years ago)

YEs, I'm totally with you on the weak wrists and preferring dough hooks to do the work. I bought a good multi purpose machine but I switched to a cheapo mixer (with replaceable hooks) cause it seems sturdier. I wish I could buy a superswanky machine. Harumph.

one year passes...

Ed, how'd it go with cleaning it up?

The Wayward Johnny B, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 12:57 (sixteen years ago)

Very good. It works a treat.
