The first book I read with any rude bits in, was one of his. For opening my eyes in this way, he deserves my gratitude, RIP.

Oh no, RIP Georgie

I wish I had access to that recording of him reading Dadaist poetry

Tom D., Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:01 (seventeen years ago)

Funnily enough, I do have it, just can't upload it right now.

Mark G, Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:02 (seventeen years ago)

Heaven needed a dude to get his cock out onstage

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:03 (seventeen years ago)

I hope the vicar reads it at his funeral! (xp)

Tom D., Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:03 (seventeen years ago)

One of the all time great xposts there.

Mark G, Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:04 (seventeen years ago)

iirc he was a member of the Secular Society and a humanist so no vicar possibly.

Is this the one minute on Miniatures? Or is there more?

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:23 (seventeen years ago)

I think that's the one

Tom D., Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:24 (seventeen years ago)

That's the one. The 'Ursonate' by Kurt Schwitters.

That one's just one minute long, but for the original piece, go here..

Wow!

Tom D., Thursday, 5 July 2007 09:33 (seventeen years ago)

Oh bugger no. Goodbye George.

NickB, Thursday, 5 July 2007 10:34 (seventeen years ago)

This is what really drags about stuff like this...

At the top end, we lose George.

At the lower end, who gets created? Jamie Cullem.

Excellent stuff, thanks Mark.

I burned those tracks and played them around the place, driving, for a while. But they tend to hang on in yr mind and NEVER LEAVE!!!

About a month ago we went to the Baltic, the usual avant art etc, one was a mannequin of a man sat on the floor with a swirl/tornado above his head. Amongst the odd things (kettles, oboes, fruit, etc) was various cards with surreal language. One said "pogiff" one said "funzbo" in fact all of them were from Ursonate. "I know how he feels" I said to general apathy.

Mark G, Thursday, 5 July 2007 13:41 (seventeen years ago)

"Revolt in Style" is urgent and key blah blah.

RIP.

I don't feel this thread is gonna have the legs of the Chris Benoit one. Sadly.

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 5 July 2007 22:17 (seventeen years ago)

He wrote this film for which he deserves kudos etc

Amazing guy. His autobiographical writings are great, particularly "Rum, Bum and Concertina". "Paris and the Surrealists" is a lovely book, beats any conventional guide.

Mark G, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

There's no good excuse that explains why I don't own this record.
