In currency, the "Tycoon" show has been shown the door: The one hour show (wednesdays) prime-time, is now 1/2 hour summary, Mondays 10:30 instead.
Well, I was enjoying it, but the GBPublic want more Big Bro.

someone lent me the first series of 'Carnivale' on dvd. i just started getting into it, and then i found out they only made two series before it was cancelled, without any resolution to the story. fuckers.
does anyone remember 'Nowhere Man', starring Bruce Greenwood? i loved that show, and the bastards cancelled that, too.

Yeah Carnivale was great, we downloaded both series off BitTorrent because we missed it when it was shown over here, then found out there weren't going to be any more because it was too expensive to make. They could have easily just ended it in the last episode though.

Firefly. :-(

so it's ok to let myself keep watching it? i'm not going to be horribly disappointed? i'm up to episode 9. xpost

Trying not to give too much away, basically it's like the end of most horror movies, i.e. you think the baddie is dead, but then oh no! they aren't! End of series.

Deadwood's my fave series ever and I was very bummed when they killed it … I would imagine the dialogue was too impenetrable, even though to me that was the part of the show I most liked. In the Season 3 DVDs the head writer talks about all the threads that would now get no resolution/time to play out.

I just had a flashback to the cancellation of Brooklyn Bridge. My family treated the news like it was a betrayal of the Jewish community (most likely by our own, ha!)

I *think* the show was good, but I was a kid. The only thing I remember is that it referenced the John R. Tunis baseball novels, of which I was a fan.

Deadwood is that western soap, right? The five minutes I saw seemed not up my alley at all.
― nathalie, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:53 (seventeen years ago)
It's one of those love-or-hate-it things, what can I say?
― Brakhage, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:55 (seventeen years ago)
Rumor is they'll do a couple of two-hour specials though, so I get to hear characters use 'fuck' twelve times in a sentence for a little while longer.
― Brakhage, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago)
nathalie you may have watched the wrong five minutes of the show. it took me a few episodes to grow on me (but, i had been lent the DVDs and had nothing else to watch at the time, so I can understand if not everyone had the patience to get into it as I did).

The subtext and main theme of the show is the creation of a community and civilization, really. People who despise each other in the first season are working together by the third, which is interesting to watch. At least that's what I get out of it. And the acting's top-notch.

I was sad when they took away my Boston Public.
Basically I'm sad whenever anything I watch gets cancelled in the middle of a run, so there's no chance for any wrap-up.

Crime Story ended with Ray Luca and Mike Torello on a plane about to crash iirc. either that or getting caught in a nuclear explosion, but that might have been the previous season-ender. what a great fucking show.
― tremendoid, Thursday, 5 July 2007 18:12 (seventeen years ago)
Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. But didn't they come back from the nuclear test, only now they both had white hair?
