I was checking out who in my neighborhood was a sex offender at http://www.familywatchdog.us/ and found this list of registered sex offender counts by state:
The outliers are definitely Alaska, with twice the number of sex offenders per million than any other state (6028.6 per million), and Minnesota, with an outstandingly low stat of 22 per million. So, Alaska has 4220 sex offenders and a population of only 700,000, while Minnesota has 110 sex offenders out of a much larger population of 5 million or so. Alaska, you are fucked up.
Also, look out for this guy in Ohio!

At one of the Brooklyn L stops there was recently a poster with a map of Brooklyn and a bunch of black dots that it says are "registered sex offenders." Someone took a red marker and made a bunch more dots and wrote "unregistered sex offenders," which for some reason I find hilarious.

Whoops, I didn't see Montana, which is the champion mainland offender state at 3892 sex offenders per million.
Minnesota has almost 5 times fewer registered sex offenders per million than its nearest rival, Rhode Island (108.7 per million). I guess the stereotypes about Minnesota politeness extends to their relative lack of perversity, as well. Either that, or their law enforcement is really lazy.

Unfortunately I succumbed to the temptation to look at the registry - I have some sexual assault dude literally around the corner but there's no picture. Otherwise my neighborhood is sexually safe!
I'm much more afraid of the owner of the gun shop that opened around the corner from me two months ago, who:
- shows old episodes of Baretta and Magnum P.I. in his shop - walks out to his SUV with his holstered gun over his shirt - called *Ashy Larry* (of Chappelle show fame) racial epithets and fired his gun in the air - left guns unlocked and allowed them to be stolen while he was in the shop - just put up signs in his window that say "With God all things are possible" and "Jesus Christ is my lord and savior"

I knew there was a sex offender a couple blocks from me because a friend was glad to point it out after she browsed the local listings. I didn't know that he was busted for "rape of a child" and that his mugshot photo features him with a black eye.
