have we "all grown up since then"? Do we look back at threads from the dim and distant past and redden with embarrassment? Has the departure of certain individuals facilitated such a change, if indeed it has happened, or has it been achieved primarily through changes in the temperament or behvaiour of the old stalwarts?

The sudden and to me perplexing revival of sundry Calum threads prompted this thread, as if you didn't guess....

Grandpont Genie, Friday, 6 July 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

no, but it seems to think so, certainly. ilx is the smuggest site in the world right now.

darraghmac, Friday, 6 July 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

BAN DARRAMOUS

Dom Passantino, Friday, 6 July 2007 12:32 (eighteen years ago)

Darraghmac, I am interested, in why you think ILX is smug.

there was some pretty horrendous stuff in the past, unwarranted attacks on ppl and so forth. Is it possible to separate the development of a board from the development of the interweb in general?

Grandpont Genie, Friday, 6 July 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

i think ILX has gone past mature into starting to become a little senile

balkanization - different factions don't trip over each other except when 300 polls are started or 200 calum threads are bumped.

acrobat, Friday, 6 July 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

The lines on my face say growing older.

It's clear to me that the advent of HSTNGS THRDS helped usher in this new era of prosperity.

You're welcome.

John Justen, Friday, 6 July 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

no offense to anyone or anything, and i'm not claiming to be above anyone here, but this shit is like middle school or something, half the time. things definitely seemed much more laid back and cool just a couple years ago.

andi, Friday, 6 July 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

we have all been gradually maturing since the war

RJG, Friday, 6 July 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

andi, Friday, 6 July 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

Well, at least you recognised you made an arrogant, snarky comment.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 6 July 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

I like looking back at those 2001 threads where people are all like "Very nice to meet you, 'Ally,' but I must respectfully disagree about Manic Street Preachers! <three-paragraph explanation>"

nabisco, Friday, 6 July 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

i take it all back. if it weren't for being funny and mean and snarky and everything, we wouldn't have threads like the one for the snorg girl. i love you sons of sons of bitches. guess who's a little drunk? rah.

i had a great nabisco zing but nu-ile ated it ;_;

HI DERE, Friday, 6 July 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, long-ass posts used to be quite the thing.

Back in the old days 'long ass' posts were possible as the time between posts could be several hours (or longer) and your point wasn't made redundant by several x-posts. In that respect ilx is a victim of its own sucess.

Billy Dods, Friday, 6 July 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

Or in other words to keep the thread narrative going, brevity of posts became a necessity.

Billy Dods, Friday, 6 July 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

Well, that and everyone started learning one another's rules of taste well enough to effectively zing people in six words and know they'd be understood.

nabisco, Friday, 6 July 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

my bad

and good riddance

sanskrit, Saturday, 7 July 2007 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

In order to save ILX, we had to kill ILX.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 7 July 2007 02:20 (eighteen years ago)

I started posting in 2004, it was on a "cheese rap" thread. I daren't look at it as I'm sure some of the rhyming patterns I used were just plain wrong. Thus I believe I have matured, at least a little bit, since 2004.
