Mr. Peanut: Hot or Not?

Abbott says that she had/has a crush on the advertising icon "Mr. Peanut." When I heard this I thought it bizarre, if only because Mr. Peanut is so stylized and it's almost like having on crush on a stick figure wearing a monocle. She then countered by saying that my own secret crush on Dangermouse makes as much sense - which had me WTFing all night.

So this is not only a question of whether or not Mr. Peanut is a viable animated crush, but also one of Mr. Peanut vs. Dangermouse.

This my fiancé BTw. Say hi!

Abbott, Thursday, 12 July 2007 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

it's almost like having on crush on a stick figure giant phallus wearing a monocle

(sorry Abbott)

But cannot you see the appeal even more now?

Abbott, Thursday, 12 July 2007 22:48 (eighteen years ago)

"monocle"

Hurting 2, Thursday, 12 July 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

1886, "single eyeglass," from Fr. monocle, from L.L. monoculus "one-eyed," from Gk. monos "single, alone" + L. oculus "eye."

It's all about the top hat.

C. Grisso/McCain, Thursday, 12 July 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

monocle=money

Why did you post the crappiest, most pixelated pic you can find? Even still his enchantment shines through.

spats v. eyepatch = fite!

luna, Thursday, 12 July 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

Momus lacks spats, as a point of comparison.

wiki sez:

According to the company, Mr. Peanut's hat, shoes, cane, and monocle symbolize fresh taste. The gloves do not symbolize anything; Mr. Peanut simply likes them.

Wow, okay, WTF

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 12 July 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

I think I have to pick Danger Mouse, because Mr. Peanut is sort of weenie looking. I mean the gloves and the top hat and the monocle and the spats... it's too much.

luna, Thursday, 12 July 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

I bet he lays his peanut shell down over street puddles when a lady has to cross them.

Abbott, Thursday, 12 July 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

You have a point.

luna, Thursday, 12 July 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

In the recent mr. peanut commercials you get to see him turn around (or the camera spins around behind him iirc)do you get to see what his monocle chain is connected to....cause that is bothering me.

man, i love the newish Planters commercials with Mr. Peanut dancing to the Bay City Rollers. He just looks so fucking cool.

Mr. Peanut would buy a lady a drink and then escort her to her table, making sure to pull out her chair for her. He'd suggest a good wine pairing with dinner.

Danger Mouse would buy the drink, but he'd be called away to deal with the nefarious doings of Greenback, and you'd be left with a stuttering Penfold all night. Not that he isn't charming in his own way, but he'd hyperventilate before the appetizers were served.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Peanut is just Mr. Monopoly wearing a giant peanut shell.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 13 July 2007 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

he is CLASS!

also, a few years back in Boston I saw a gallery show about this: An artist ran for mayor of Vancouver in 1974, dressed as Mr Peanut and staying utterly silent. He was in the TV debates and got 3.4% of the vote.

The ad where he's dancing to the Bay City Rollers (which RULES btw) indicates his monocle strap is just coming out of his side. I believe it mught be formed from a symbiotic fungus that fixes nitrogen nodules inside his top har.
