have you ever worn a bolo? my grandfather did, as a kind of "casual" alternative to a tie. he was from texas though. once when i was young he gave me one for my birthday. the clasp was a scorpion encased in a clear polyurethane disc. (he probably got it at stuckey's.)

I thought that was a weighted line used by gouchos in lieu of a lariat?

Actually, a bolA is a weighted line gauchos use in lieu of a lariat.

A bolo is also a type of neckwear that bears a slight resemblance to said Argentine ranching tool.

Furthermore, it is a filipino word for machete

Lastly, it is the name of an incredibly muscular Chinese action star best known for playing the villainous henchmen of Han in Enter the Dragon.

I have not worn any of these.

A kid graduating from a high school in Montana last year was denied a diploma because he tried to wear a bolo tie to the ceremony, despite his ancestors being born on a Cherokee reservation. A fan of bolos himself, the governor of Montana wrote the kid to express his support, and included a gift of an official Montana state bolo.

Bill Richardson is in to bolos, big time. This year, he passed some legislation making them the official state necktie!
