tiger balm on my nuts

Yeah I'm with you, get bent, though I never remember the names for the different patent medicines. I've had good experiences with making tea from raw herbs prescribed after acupuncture sessions.

anyone know anything about it?

my next-to-door neighbour who shares the same last name as me but is not related is a practitioner of chinese medicine and has been greatly helpful with my fucked-up back this week, and my fucked-up ankle a couple years ago. he makes a lot of his own medicines.

i feel like it's time to (dis)respectfully withdraw from the contemporary u.s. healthcare system as we know it. there's a phrase, "vote with your feet," that is kind of problematic as a general philosophy but OTM when it includes your revenge fantasies about bankrupting evil corporations.

boy, i sure would love to find the perfect traditional chinese cocktail for guaranteed health and happiness.

i mean this. it's difficult though, finding a medication that actually works (where NOTHING has worked before) but having to go through hell to actually get it covered by my insurance company, and every month they come up with some new reason why they won't pay for it. if there's a god, he must get his nut off by sitting around pointing and roffling at me.

There are some serious problems to which Chinese medicine will defer to Western medical practices (surgery, for example), but there is so much that can be accomplished through the Chinese way.

I think, in general, the difference is very fundamental in that Western medicine is more oriented toward putting "band aids" on things rather than dealing with the root causes of problems which can either be very personal or are just not explained properly through Western science.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 19 July 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

But yeah, I'm with you on "withdrawing" from the system. My daughter is five-and-a-half and has not once been to a Western doctor and was not born in a hospital.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 19 July 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

get bent, have you seen to a Chinese doctor about your situation. Is there the possibility of dealing with it through herbs and acupuncture?

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 19 July 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

i think w/r/t issues of the brane, there are definitely chemical imbalances that require western-type pharmaceuticals -- that said, i believe that there are a lot of factors that make up this big thing called "mental health," and we as individuals can contribute a significant amount to our own well-being.

i want to talk/read seriously abt this subject but chaki's answer keeps making me laugh too much - will return later when under control

OK, yeah, I know that one. My experience, though, is that seeing a Chinese doctor, having acupuncture, and getting prescriptions of raw herbs can be more helpful than relying on patent medicines like that one. I'm just saying - if you haven't done that yet, it's a possibility. It's cheap and I've never had a bad experience with it.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 19 July 2007 22:21 (eighteen years ago)

i made an appointment with my primary to get a referral to get an appointment with one of the acupuncturists on my plan. ugggggh not quite "withdrawing," is it?

get bent, Thursday, 19 July 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Well, if the treatment will be covered by your plan it's probably worth it.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 19 July 2007 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

accupuncture can be v v benficial when it comes to mental things.
