how are poppyseeds so good??
i think i have eaten a million of them as they are best in concentrated form + honey&pastry/dough and/or bagels and/or whatever yes please
i wish the bagel places here wld make more warm and fresh poppyseed bagels instead of concentrating on the sesame staple

i think that was urban legend or maybe true and they've genetically modified poppy seeds to where it don't happen no more? not up on my drug mythos.

oh right, i actually had a store-bought poppyseed dressing on a salad last night, added a little balsamic vinegar to make it slightly tangier. good times.
think i'm gonna opt for a non-bagel option but i don't know what yet.

this thread is a thinly veiled sadness for us
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 19 July 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)
what is in poppyseeds that hurt you?
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 19 July 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)
Nothing "in" them, it's just the smallness/hardness/similarity to grapeshot as it makes its way through my guts. Same with teh sesame.
I'm of scandinavian extraction but I have the digestive troubles of an E. European.
― Jon Lewis, Thursday, 19 July 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)
wait, is it a nut issue? b/c apparently i also have nut intolerance issues (can only have small quantity and only like once a week). sadness! oh well
sometimes, i have read, what you crave is what you shouldn't be eating, allergy-wise, which is weird b/c i have also been told that you should eat what you crave i think that this is some next-level ironic physiological cruelty
xpost - aw :(
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 19 July 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah I go ahead and eat what I crave, unless some clear empirical bad result happens afterward. If I buy into the "craving = body warning you of danger" then I'm afraid I will go insane.
Peanuts I have learned to steer clear of. Cashews seem ok though.
― Jon Lewis, Thursday, 19 July 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)
yeah i think the difference is figuring out a true bodily craving for what you require from a mental desire type craving for what you do not really need and which may destroy you
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 19 July 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)
That doesn't seem like as much of a double-bind, I can cosign that.
― Jon Lewis, Thursday, 19 July 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)
i'm gonna go get v v minorly destroyed later and it will prob be worth it due to its small scale

even though i basically just had salad + fish for dinner and then ate the giant rugelach (it was too fresh and good to just only eat half of i am telling you) and strawberries and cherries (ohman i do not want summer to end b/c i do not want berry season to end ever), i am totally full and need to go for after-dinner walk, which is just a good idea in general anyway = worth it

is this "everything" bagel thing a wholly american phenonmenon? b/c i had never even heard of it before ile bagel talk are there onions in it? are there poppyseeds AND sesame seeds? garlic? raisins? how far does everything go? i'm kind of protective of this word
― rrrobyn, Friday, 20 July 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

i have seen everything bagels robyn. i have felt them, in my mouth. they are not so bad; surely a citizen of the country that invented all dressed chips can begin to understand their appeal?
basically they taste like "onions & friends" bagels
― s1ocki, Friday, 20 July 2007 19:52 (eighteen years ago)
oh i love onion bagels and wld def like an "everything" bagel, but it is not really everything now is it
