Who is the Warrior Poet?
Who is the warrior poet? A great romance hero archetype. We adore his various permutations, shapes, and sizes and spend a good part of our creative time with him!

His roots are in the Irish Fianna, an ancient society of professional protectors of the poor and voiceless. A man was not taken into this society until he not only proved himself in battle but also was a prime poet. In his trials he had to run through a gauntlet of nine fellow soldiers in Ireland's woods. His weapons could not quiver in his hand, nor could he crack a dry stick underfoot, or disturb a hair out of its braiding. This guy had to have finesse!

Mary Jo, Susan, and I see our heroes coming out of this tradition. They're crusty on the outside but sweet and balanced on the inside. We call them our M&M men. We'd like to make a case that the crusty, sweet-centered hero has a long and honorable tradition in literature and myth.

Warriors Weapons

I sit here staring at cold steel, my weapons before me, like an altar of some forgotten religion. There were many battles, this metal forged and fought, many widows, fatherless sons and daughters they wrought. For as a season passing I look in the reflection of a blade and see my life, the warrior looking back at me has weathered the storms and fought well, but looking over those many years gone by, I wonder did he do what was right? As the fire blazes in my heart and hall, my weapons not yet relicts seem to answer one and all, my lord you did well indeed, as the fire glints on metal they seem to say, you have fought the good fight, now rest for tomorrow is another day another battle.

I see eye-to-eye on most issues regarding this administration, but I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill over Petraeus. So what if he's a Republican? So what if he's partisan towards the Administration? He's the best man for the job. He should have been in command there years ago. He's the closest thing to the classical warrior poet that we have in the modern context. His job is to kill the enemy, placate the population, and try to stabilize Bush's disaster. So long as he does that job, who cares about his partisanship? I have seen no evidence whatsoever that his partisanship is affecting his judgment or his performance.

The Unknown

As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.

MANGO - Warrior Poet

G’day, I'm MANGO - Crown Prince of Fools Black Philosopher, and Warrior Poet. I'm the lyrist and blues harp player for Lighting Blue, and Moontan. I write most of my lyrics in bars and pubs on coasters. I figure hell why waste my paper. I constantly have the would be drunken philosopher come up to me and state "The pen is mightier than the sword". My standard reply is:

Yes child, the pen is mightier than the sword but the right words, spoken the right way, at the right moment.

Are sharper than any blade,

Then if you only speak the truth, you can penetrate any amour.

Because the truth protects the innocent and only hurts the guilty babe.

Love and music are my weapons; word and verse are my shields. I am the Warrior
Poet "Oh the one who never yields"
the poet's mind beats to the beat of a different drum. But most people don't
realize the outcome

For some people there is peace and serenity, for the poet it is a constant
war against insanity
His soul feels the hunger and the suffering of the poor
The anguish and the selflessness of the educated
The arrogance and ignorance of the rich

The poet's mind can never sleep, he keeps going till he falls in a heap
The poet constantly stands guard on the moral watchtower
Throwing his lines and barbs at those in power
If he slips and falls to the lower ground, society feels his loss all round

But there is method in this madness amongst this havoc and this sadness
I call every musician and poet sister and brother, because we try to
encourage not discourage each other
So yes child a poet with his pen in his hand can always defeat the strongest man

But his only wish is to set his soul free but this can never be.

I will not pick a fight with you
I'd be scared I'd foul it up
What with one of your arms
I could get busted up

Don't come around here angry
This is a house of water
You'll be cold and soaking wet
'Ere you leave here

Make a noise, crack a glass
I'll hold his arms, you fuck him
Fuck him with something
The fuck - he deserves it
