Is it time/worth it? etc?

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

I am normally quite a healthy person but I have been busy and eaten and drank crap all week. I feel plastic.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

It was choking on a caramel two minutes ago that was the final straw. I don't even like sweets!

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

you're in the downward spiral.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

bo. No, I'm too clever.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

ignore "bo"

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

unless that is your name

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

Denial! You're in deeper than I first thought. Bo knows.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:13 (eighteen years ago)

I will defy you with my weekend plans.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

In fact, I'm drinking water now so take that.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah how does one detox off a bad diet?

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

Fruits and veg and H20, or something weird?

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

That's what I eat in my normal life. My co-worker comes by and picks up my salad off my desk and fakes a dropkick with it. He watches the Military Channel.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

He also makes poo jokes when I eat fruit. There's more to fruit than pooing.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

This guy will outlive you by 25 years, that's just how life is.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:21 (eighteen years ago)

He calls 5pm on Friday "Beer O'Clock"

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

Bo, it's not the lentgh of the life but the quality of the life lived.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

Just soak yr feets: http://www.detox-your-body.com/

I have a foot spa! It's packed up though.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

this is about veronica mars, right? i'm so not ready. (read: i'm bittorrenting the third season.)

stevienixed, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

SUCH a weird thread

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

every day is beer o'clock

bell_labs, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

i was kidding, adam. i don't really believe in detox.

stevienixed, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

i think i'm afraid of all that

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:28 (eighteen years ago)

Do you have a magic footspa that pulls toxins out of yr blood through yr feet pores???? I want to try one of these (w/o having to buy it).

Jaq, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

Just a side note - I've had my whole body encased in saran wrap at a spa in Belize. I was in there for about 30 mins and I am super claustrophobic. While this was happening I had cold tea fed to me through a straw and my brow mopped by two Texan ladies. I felt vulnerable.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

and yet, I could do with that now.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

Were your arms wrapped separately, or strapped down tight to your sides? The latter would freak me right out.

Jaq, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

they were down at my sides. I'm not sure how I managed not to freak out. I think it took a few mins of deep breathing. I get claustrophobia, vertigo, fear of pitch darkness, everything you can imagine.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)

I'd had a massage right before this, which probably helped.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:32 (eighteen years ago)

and that's when I began to notice the autonomic dilation of arteries supplying blood to my penis xp

There was an item about them on Watchdog (British TV show which investigate consumer rip-off type things) which concluded big old scam and waste of money. Though that might just have been the places that charge you squillions of ££££ to use theirs, rather than the actual things themselves.

i have been super busy all week & kind of want to order pizza tonight but that'll make me feel horrible, i know

as far as detox, what about just having lots of water, green tea, salad, and fruit? that should do it.

daria-g, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

that is my basic detox recipe. easier said than done sometimes.

admrl, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

daria otm, I just eat stuff that's good for me, replace coffee and soda with green tea and lots of water, cut out most alcohol, and eat a lot of non-greasy foods when I feel gross. 99.9% of all "toxin removal" stuff is utter bullshit, if not outright scams.

And beer o'clock comes earlier than 5pm on friday, trust me.

mh, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

the only time i've done a real detox was when i lived in the virgin islands for a month, in a remote camp with no access to chemical vices of any kind. it was awesome.

river wolf, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

Why is coffee supposedly toxic? Green tea has caffeine, too, and is just as diuretic. Is it some other alkaloid that's supposed to be bad for you?

Michael White, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

With coffee, there is a bunch more shit that boils off the bean. I don't kow for sure, but I'm just making it up. I do know that coffee gives me the shits and green tea does not. However, coffee wakes me up and green tea does not. Better than either is good outdoor-grown wheat grass. Wakes you up and cleans you out! It opens up your butthole but doesn't make you shit like coffee can. Nice conversation, wot?

dean ge, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

is wheatgrass not expensive? where can I buy a wheatgrass on my local shopping street

admrl, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

The amount of caffeine in green tea is way less - something like 30 mg vs. something like 100+ in coffee.

I think coffee in moderation is probably good for you, as long as it isn't filled with various sweeteners/ fatty dairy products. Seems like I remember hearing recently a half cup of black coffee every so often is good for your liver. or something.

but doesn't make you shit like coffee can

Hmmm. I've never seen a coffee can shit.

Michael White, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

it's horrific

river wolf, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

re: wheatgrass
It's pretty expensive and the crap on your local street is probably grown indoors, which is not good. Indoor stuff usually has mold which makes people sick AND because it is grown under fake lighting, does not actually have the same amount of wheatgrassy goodness. :-( You can buy Amazing Greens powder, which is pretty good or buy it in bulk ice cube trays for freezing. It averages to like $1 per cube or something.

dean ge, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't had any coffee since Friday, but usually, my entire daily caffeine intake is one double espresso.

Michael White, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

but where?

xp

admrl, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

Coffee has about infinitely more caffeine than green tea and is pitch black the way I drink it. I don't care if it has anything weird in it, but the fact that I rely on a couple cups a day to fiend off caffeine deprivation headaches means that if I want to be independent of it, I have to drop it occasionally.

Also it fucks up my digestive system eventually, in the coffee shits way.

mh, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I am trying to quit the coffee. I have done this successfully about three times.

river wolf, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

Well, admrl, you can usually get the powder at any health store for $20 / month supply (Amazing Grass or Greens is a good one - forgot the name)

and here's the cube bulk order store:http://www.dynamicgreens.com/using_the_juice.html

dean ge, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

Just drink plenty of water. This is the only medical advice I am licensed to give, incidentally. You may notice this seal of approval on some water bottles:

"Drink Plenty of Water."
---Rev. Doctor Kaiser A. McCracken, Esq.

Abbott, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

get some psyllium husk, either in capsule or loose form, take a whole bunch, and drink lots and lots and lots of water. your stool will be abundant and satisfying and you'll clean lots of nasty stuff out of your colon (so you won't be like our president).

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

yoga, , meditation and now toxins ... adam you sure are on one quack-happy run. What will your next thread be about? dream healing? :)

admrl, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

Sébastien, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

"The detox idea is seemingly the perfect scam -- it sets up a problem that doesn't exist, then provides a solution."

bnw, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

Scient0l0gee is the ultimate "detox" nonsense.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

Let's distnguish between detox "regimes" and the process of eating bland-ish/unsalted/unsweetened whole foods and drinking water for a period of time in order to feel less like crap. I know the latter works for me.

admrl, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

He just pulled it from his desk drawer.
