New HBO Show: "Tell Me You Love Me": A Drama About Relationships (with...um... real hardcore sex scenes)

Has there been a thread about this new show yet? (It deserves a crossover with the LOST thread, too, since both Penny Widmore and Boone apparently get frisky, according to tv biz friend):

‘Tell Me You Love Me’ tells the personal and sexual lives of four couples. There’s no ‘Sex in the City’ single swinging good times going on. It’s a show about people who are in love and have a relationship. Beyond the sexual content there is something exciting about a show approaching the role of the boudoir in everyday life. The show about couples in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 60s has been dubbed “That HBO Porn Show” by the media.'

Will there be cameos by Steve Buscemi, Annabelle Sciorra, and Frankie Valli?

Eazy, Saturday, 21 July 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

If it was "real hardcore" there wouldn't be any question as to whether they were actually having sex, no?

marmotwolof, Saturday, 21 July 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

I hope this is like a series of Cronenberg's "Crash."

Abbott, Saturday, 21 July 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

That show, I hope it is like good and effective because the world sure needs some non-bland and retarded porno.

Abbott, Saturday, 21 July 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I seriously doubt they would make it any more explicit than Crash.

marmotwolof, Saturday, 21 July 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think HBO could/would go any further than what they've shown on Real Sex or the Nevada hooker show - no penetration but maybe a little more graphic than your average softcore movie.

milo z, Saturday, 21 July 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

I don't get why anyone even looks at softcore; like if I'm watching porn I want sex and not a bunch of people waving their asses around pointlessly.

Abbott, Saturday, 21 July 2007 22:13 (eighteen years ago)

Not that I need to see a million meat-slapping shots (which get quite tedious), but whenever someone rented a movie (from the video store where I worked) like "Women of Peaches Video Get Super Sassy Seminude," I really, really didn't get it.

From some Mr. Skin kind of site:

"HBO is about to heat up TV screens this fall with numerous scenes of unsimulated sex. No, it's not 'Real Sex' or 'Cathouse', two of the networks' steamiest reality series. It's a new fictional drama entitled 'Tell Me You Love Me' and it's already got America talking.

The show is a realistic look at the day to day lives of three married couples. How realistic? The first episode features a woman (played by 'Lost' actress Sonya Walger) masturbating her husband (Adam Scott) to orgasm... and nothing is left to the imagination. Later episodes are said to feature 45 year old actress Ally Walker (former star of 'Profiler') give an unsimulated blowjob to an unnamed 19 year old actor; actress Sherry Stringfield ('ER') masturbating with a vibrator; and actress Katharine Towne ('Blades of Glory') being fingered by 'Lost' actor Ian Somerhalder, who later masturbates and climaxes on her bare chest. How will people take all of this in the prime time market? 'Tell Me You Love Me' is set to air at 10PM on Sundays, not exactly the usual hour for acts of this nature to be broadcast on HBO."

Hold up, c on t for reals? They don't even show cumshots on the Playboy Channel. They must just be saying this shit so everyone will at least watch the first episode.

Yeah, I dunno. I want this show to be well-done because I've always wanted to see something like this. Not with hardcore cum-shots necessarily, but something that portrayed sex realistically and as an integral part of a relationship. So I'm hoping that the sex isn't all hot porno fucking, and that some of it is fumbly and awkward and sweet and funny and occasionally boring.

Deric W. Haircare, Sunday, 22 July 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

There's something kind of hot about that sweet fumbling genuine sex to be honest.

Trayce, Sunday, 22 July 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

Well, yeah. I should've said "hot" porno fucking.

Deric W. Haircare, Sunday, 22 July 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

I've always wanted to see something like this

Eyes Wide Shut was trailed (aeons beforehand) as being along those lines. Of course it turned out to be nothing of the sort. I guess the trouble is that no-one with hopes of being a career actor or actress would even consider hardcore, and no-one who actually does do hardcore would be able to make it look even remotely everyday. So I'm sceptical about this kind of hype. The trailer does look nice, though.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 22 July 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

this all sounds pretty post-shortbus i guess

s1ocki, Sunday, 22 July 2007 19:00 (eighteen years ago)

people with HBO > people who have actually seen Shortbus

Louis CK's show tried to do this, kinda

kingfish, Sunday, 22 July 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

This sounds unbelievably lame.

ya i'm just saying it soudns like the same kind of thing.

s1ocki, Sunday, 22 July 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

Splitting hairs, I know, but Shortbus was pretty far removed from hardcore, too.

Eric H., Monday, 23 July 2007 00:22 (eighteen years ago)

i met the orgy scene girl from shortbus the other night! super hot.

poortheatre, Monday, 23 July 2007 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

Revive, for "Tell Me You Love Me" is upon us. Two episodes in, I like it. It's broad and kinda obvious, but nonetheless sometimes cuts very near the bone wrt the distances we feel and discover and create with the people we sleep beside. Also, there are many white people.

rogermexico., Monday, 17 September 2007 05:26 (eighteen years ago)

And it's all straight people so far. But I think the writing is actually pretty decent. Pleasantly surprised.

Ben Boyerrr, Monday, 17 September 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

Margo Stilley, the actress (can you say that thesedays? anyroad..) off "9 Songs" ...

Did she have a 'career' after that one? I see in IMDB she has done more films. But I don't know of them, why should I? Not being up on fillums thesedays...

Mark G, Monday, 17 September 2007 09:18 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

caught up on this show over the weekend. i'm totally into now. who's watching it?

carne asada, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'm following it w/o really being all that into it.

Michael White, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

It gets more tiresome with each episode.

I'm curious whether or not this prediction came true.

I'm curious whether or not this prediction came true.

Well, at least one of those things has happened, but as it turns out there was a fake weiner involved rather than a real one.

Ben Boyerrr, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

This takes the Tinto Brass approach to sex, eh? Plastic cocks.

Has there been much fuss over this show? In the UK I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere and we usually love to fill our newspapers (OK, The Guardian) with reports of what's going on in the world of American TV.

Raw Patrick, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 07:45 (eighteen years ago)

Never heard the hype about the show, but just stumbled on Episode 4. The above quote is OTM. My heart especially went out to the couple with two kids when the husband blew up in their therapy session. Not totally true-to-life dialogue, but the emotional pain seemed genuine and real.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 3 October 2007 04:27 (eighteen years ago)

The drama is better than I thought it would be but the sex scenes are worse. Sonya Walger is hott.

Dandy Don Weiner, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 11:00 (eighteen years ago)

Is this show being renewed for another season? The promos suggest not.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 4 November 2007 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

this show is not very good.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 4 November 2007 05:01 (eighteen years ago)

I watched the first episode, and then forgot it existed. And I still don't care!

Oilyrags, Sunday, 4 November 2007 05:04 (eighteen years ago)

i can't even be bothered to watch it ondemand. that's really saying something.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 4 November 2007 05:05 (eighteen years ago)

I empathize with the 40-ish couple with two kids. Their relationship seems real to me. I'm interested in what happens to them.

The other couples on the show are of less interest to me. The 30-ish couple that was trying to have a baby (and now are pregnant) presents a somewhat compelling storyline, but they are such an unlikable couple -- especially him -- that it makes it hard to care about them.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 4 November 2007 05:21 (eighteen years ago)

So, do they show penetration and cumshots?

Mr. Goodman, Sunday, 4 November 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

Not that I've seen. I don't get what's so ''edgy'' about the show, but I've only seen three episodes.
