you mean like, bread and rice and pasta? Brown (well wholewheat ackshirley) MOUSE SHIT AND ALL RICKY T.

katie, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you some kind of electrical appliance racialist?

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Brown became black became silver (or even champagne!)

White remains largely white (luxury = blue or yellow (smeg) - ha!)

Brown please.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm down with wholemeal bread, but wholemeal pasta is a grim n gritty horror.

RickyT, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

agreed, wholemeal pasta = the devils work, as are pancakes made with wholemeal flour.

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

when was the last time you actually ate wholewheat pasta rickyT? for i don't find it gritty at all and fear that you are labouring under a misconception.

katie, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I fear that Katie is going to get outvoted by a baying anti-wholemeal pasta mob at this point for it is indeed foul and evil stuff.

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bugger. no change there then :)

katie, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can you still get brown bread or is it all wholemeal now?

Jonnie, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I may be wrong in this, but in Italy, surely the spiritual home of pasta, the brown stuff is hard to get hold of andquite rightly shunned by the majority. This is because it may be good for you, but in fact tastes of cardboard and has the strange ability to be both slimy and gritty at the same time.

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wholemeal pasta is good and makes a very homely macaroni cheese. The Gastro-arbiter has spoken.

Ed, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Gastro-arbiter can stuff it up his arse. It's muck.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

italy is also the spiritual home of pizzas which should be thin and have ONLY tomatos cheese garlic oil and herbs on, or somesuch. doesn't mean you'd want to be without your deep pan thing with all manner of toppings now does it?

katie, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The brown goods are best, otherwise your body transforms all that white stuff into sugar and you might as well have eaten a donut.

Evangeline, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a bit sick of this continual mob mentality when it comes to tasty wholemeal goods.

Tim, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

doesn't mean you'd want to be without your deep pan thing with all manner of toppings now does it?

Yes, it does. You can keep your deep pan slop to yourself thank you very much. And take your red pesto with you. I have just realised how rockist I am about Italian food.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ah, but I can't stand dep pan pizzas, they're all dough and no filling. And the gastro-arbiter is so far off the money that he should file for bankruptcy.

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, I'm concerned, are you turning into a hippy? I hope not.

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ANYWAY. TVs and fridges!

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Brown pasts does exist in Italy it tends to be in the bio/buonessere (organic/wellbeing) sections of supermarkets but its there. As for pizzas the thickness depends on where you are in Italy, they get very bready and thick in Bologna.

Ed, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

why are PCs generally offwhite, yet laptops are generally black?

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's still not popular though ED, cos, as Nick said, it's muck.

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim is not a hippy he is a skilled piss-taker.

The thought of ordering the junkiest pizza in the universe and scoffing it in front of soaps this evening is the only thing getting me through my day of Extreme Hangover. Mmmmmmm. My TV is better than my fridge for this very reason i.e. I can get food from a bloke on a moped but he cannot provide me with an evening's entertainment (maybe 15 minutes or so, arf arf).

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Arf Arf indeed. I wish people really did make Arf Arf noises, like dogs. Mind you, I wish women were more like mice too, so don't listen to what I have to say.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

WHy do you wish women were like mice? So you can keep them in a cage?

Anyway, does anybody want to buy a washing machine?

Pete, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it brown?

Jonnie, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

For the millionth time Pete, I cannot afford to buy a washing machine from you.

I have realised I am very easily marketed to. I like smeg fridges and i-macs and those vacum cleaners that look like plastic balls. It's either that or someone is sneaking into my room at night and reading Elle Decoration out loud while I sleep.

I do not like wholemeal pasta. But I do like spinnich pasta, which is green and really a whole different ball game.

Anna, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If you don't buy it how am I ever going to prove that my "Dream marketer" works and make billions from the ad agencies.

Though even subliminal dream marketing could not convince me that wholemeal pasta tasted nice. Yuck!

Pete, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

N. I do say ARF 'IRL' but not to YOU cos you never say anything funny. ALSO I agree with KatieG that WHOLEMEAL PASTA IS NUMMY and indeed my precioussssses I think I shall haf some tonight. I have some strange LOW FAT MATURE CHEDDAR which is odd and I am not sure if I like. I will grate this over the top therefore having brown and (sort of) white heh - ok it is yellow but thereforth lies SMEG.

Sarah, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wholemeal bread on the other hand goes nicely with THICK SOUP and not much else.

Sarah, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You don't make Arf Arf noises, you just say 'Arf Arf', which isn't the same at all. WHAT ABOUT MANBOOB?

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have utterly lost the thread of this thread now.

Anna, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jejejejeje (as they say in SPAIN), I called someone a manboob this VERY MORNING.

Sarah, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But then having just read the others I quite like happy confusion over pasta and washing machines and mice women and jejejejeje.

Anna, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BROWN pasta is NICE but it takes too long to COOK, so GREEN pasta is best, especially if it comes with some BROWN mouse droppings inside claiming to be HAM or some SMEG claiming to be CHEESE. BROWN rice is popular on BUILDING SITES.

PM, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

N. our fridge is silver/grey (bought thus to match new kitchen units)

Telly is black (old). Recently we flirted with a silver TV for the bedroom but it broke & was returned.

I bought a hifi last autumn & it is silver/grey.

David, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Peter, why is brown rice popular on building sites? And do you just mean Spanish ones?

David, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The worst rice is Tilda 'executive' rice for BUSY PEOPLE aha!!! Posh WHITE rice vs WORKING CLASS BROWN RICE surely this is racialist. Can we sue?

Sarah, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Because Noddy Holder's gargled all the gravel.

PM, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

White goods/ brown goods distinction defunct as everything is now silver grey.

Anna, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Brown Pasta can also be chocolate flavoured.

Ed, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

now that's a different story! so long as it's not wholemeal of course.

I've never had black (squid ink) pasta, does it taste fishy?

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's lovely. I had it in Venice a couple of months ago. That said I really like squid, which is what it tastes of. It also gives you temporary black goth lipstick.

Anna, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

GOTH!!!

Hmm that does sound tasty though. Is there any way you can stop it making you look like a goth?

Pete, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A mouth guard like you're supposed to use to prevent the spread of, er, diseases during A Sex Act?

The very thought of chocolate pasta increases my queasiness rating from 6 to 9 out of 10.

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The black risotto that is a speciality of the Veneto is also made with squid ink (or is it more correctly cuttlefish ink?). It not only gives you black Gothlips but Gothteeth & a Gothtongue too!

David, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A mouth guard like you're supposed to use to prevent the spread of, er, diseases during A Sex Act?

WHAT? Is this serious? What STDs can you get from oral sex anyway? That's not a rhetorical question.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You have to trust your dining companions and then go and scrub it off.

Anna, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Also I removed the squid ink, so = notgoth.

Anna, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick: herpes. And that's just for starters!

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the taste should be amazing, the look it gives...oh the horror

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this relating to squid spaghetti or catching herpes whilst being fellated by a cold sore ridden ladyboy?

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it was the squid risotto actually.

chris, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I so fear herpes. Tell me more (I'm sure they never covered this angle in Biology class)

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Squid with herpes! Never let it be said my sex life is dull!

I'm really, really sorry. I might do some work now.

Anna, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What more do you want to know? Read more Cosmo is my advice. There is a form of mouth thrush too I believe.

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, so this is the consequence of gastropornography.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I rarely get past the He Confesses/She Confesses section in Cosmo. Mouth thrush indeed. Can men get that?

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I THINK so! But I am not going to google it.

Sarah, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Only from licking railings

David, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not a doctor but.....I imagine so. I am not very sure on this one, I think it's a different type of thrush and don't know whether you can catch it from oral sex. Whereas you can definitely get herpes if someone with a cold sore gives you oral sex. Mmm, weeping sores...

I thought about pretending there was such a thing as mouth gonorrhea or mouth syphilis but didn't want to put you off completely.

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's very thoughtful, thank you.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AVOID GOTH TEETH AND GOTH TONGUE.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Herpes simplex - if you wake up with a little alarm clock on your gob you know you've got it.

Pete, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would like to point out that my knowledge of the transmission of STDs is down to extensive reading of crappy magazines rather than personal experience.

Emma, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Several friends of mine managed to catch thrush in both their genital and oral regions after a particularly drunken few days. So, yes, you can catch oral thrush via oral sex.

RickyT, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought about pretending there was such a thing as mouth gonorrhea or mouth syphilis but didn't want to put you off completely.

No need to pretend, it's entirely possible to get (and spread) these diseases by mouth.

j.lu, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm keeping my mouth shit from now on.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Err - 'shut'.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just admit you wrote that intentionally. :-)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, because I didn't. U and I are next to each other on the keyboard.

N., Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know, it's so ROMANTIC!!

mark s, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Speaking of shit, squid ink gives you goth poo too.

PM, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh, just like guinness... brown rice is rubbish too, if only cos it takes THREE YEARS to cook. my computer is LION COLOURED and fluffy also, and he has a pink kangol hat and lots of badges...
