Isn't this pretty much the showbiz equivalent of being a highly paid telemarketer?
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 00:43 (nineteen years ago)
louie anderson was 1st choice but he said no more game shows after his days on the feud.
― tehresa, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 00:48 (nineteen years ago)
drew is a good choice. he has a perverse, 50's, david lynch-esque thing going on which will work well within the confines of old insane PiR fans the the retro decor of the games and studio.
― chaki, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 00:52 (nineteen years ago)
why would anyone want louie anderson after his days on the feud

They need to replace the guy who replaced Robert Ray "Rod" Roddy . It's difficult to measure up to Rod's overwhelming creepiness.

The Drew Carey Show
― Z S, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:28 (nineteen years ago)
well ok, but he had a lot of other good moments
― kenan, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:30 (nineteen years ago)
HOOS LINE aka the worst show everdriver?
― wanko ergo sum, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:34 (nineteen years ago)
I don't think Drew's going to be hugged as often.
― Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:36 (nineteen years ago)
Bear-sized guys everywhere disagree.
― kenan, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:36 (nineteen years ago)
He's cuddly!
― kenan, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:37 (nineteen years ago)
He be less threatening to the models, which is good. But will he embrace the sterilization of domestic animals?
― wanko ergo sum, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:37 (nineteen years ago)
I like Drew Carey AND The Drew Carey Show and few people are as reverent about tv's history as that guy, so TPIR is probably in good hands.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:39 (nineteen years ago)
we're not from the midwest
― gabbneb, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:41 (nineteen years ago)
It's kinda funny that he's getting this job just as he's about to host a prime time game show. It's so hard to imagine anyone besides Barker hosting TPIR that it'll be hard to call whether he's any good until he settles into the job for a while, but I think Drew Carey's a better choice than almost everyone else previously mentioned as a candidate (Mario Lopez, Rosie O'Donnell, George Hamilton, etc).

Oh, God...Mario Lopez was actually considered?!
― Tape Store, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 02:51 (nineteen years ago)
I liked the Drew Carey show!
― Trayce, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 03:01 (nineteen years ago)
And Who's Line is it Anyway.
Who's Line is still on the Family channel 94/7, and I still stop for 5 minutes now and again. Not so much when they sing, though. Even Wayne Brady.
― kenan, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 03:04 (nineteen years ago)
But Proops... you gotta know I love Proops. ;)
Kenan is totally not redeeming himself from his failed Andy Dick defense on this thread
― Hurting 2, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 03:04 (nineteen years ago)
It really was failed. But sometimes, when life hands you Dicks...

― Eisbaer, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 04:54 (nineteen years ago)
Drew Carey just seems less huggable due to his ... sweatiness?
And you know he's gonna crack wise about all the games LOL PLINKO where Bob was completely non-ironic about the whole thing.
― Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 04:55 (nineteen years ago)
Plinko is not a fucking joke, motherfucker.
― kenan, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 05:59 (nineteen years ago)
hey, the notion was startling but not implausible
― da croupier, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 20:48 (nineteen years ago)
And he's off and running.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)
Carey is something of a sphere himself; when he first came out from the wings at the start of the show, he brought to mind the giant mechanical peacekeeper that went haywire in the first minutes of the movie "RoboCop."
Good one.
― Chris L, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 02:06 (eighteen years ago)
omg did he malfunction and kill a contestant???

Barker was a better actor though.

becoming host of The Price Is Right is such an awesome ridiculous cosmic joke on drew carey
― hobbes, Friday, 23 July 2010 05:10 (sixteen years ago)
That Esquire story is amazing and, yes, Drew Carey comes across as a complete asshole.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 23 July 2010 05:42 (sixteen years ago)
Aw, man, my brother is so into Price is Right. (He has framed photos of Bob Barker, ROd Roddy & some Showcase Girls up in his living room.) He'd love that story but otoh he is intensely offended by the word "fuck," meaning Drew Carey ruined my ability to send it to him w/out me looking like an insensitive jerk.
― mercy, sportsmanship, morality (Abbott), Friday, 23 July 2010 17:11 (sixteen years ago)
I agree. I used to love watching the Price is Right when I was a kid but I have a feeling that if I watched the nu-Price is Right I would loathe it.
― ô_o (Nicole), Friday, 23 July 2010 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

drew carey as host, always looks like he's thinking FUCK THIS SHIT I H8 MYSELF, its like son, you are hosting the best game show in the history of morning weekday television. fuck u 4 ruining the house that barker built.
― feelin on yo (_(__) (m bison), Friday, 23 July 2010 17:26 (sixteen years ago)
I was just watching it this morning, I think for the first time this year, and yeah Carey treats it like some big fucking joke, but come on guys the illusion is part of the spectacle.

It's pretty cool that Barker had made the game vegetarian. I'm not so big on cream of mushroom soup, though.
