i hate heat

Surmounter, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

Go to the UK and you will have cloud cover.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

I would complain about the heat as usual but TX is still in monsoon season. We might all drown soon.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

i kno i've oft dreamt of it

Surmounter, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

I was in Eastern Africa two weeks ago and it was 20 degrees cooler there than it was back home. (To be fair, it is rainy season there. Still though.) My grass is TOAST and my family is sweaty.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Daer Mr Rain Cloud fuck off more like.

DavidM, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

CharlieNo4, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

Of going to the UK or of TX drowning? Better be the former, hoss.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha the former ; )

Surmounter, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

25 people actually have died in europe so far, jokers.

hstencil, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

We've had a weirdly mild summer. Usually by now there have been headlines all over that rag The Sun-Times like, "City Breathless Over Staggering 100 Degree Heat" with an accompanying photo of people lying on the street dying slowly, like when they cut off the air supply in Total Recall. I was all set to buy an air conditioner this year, but I haven't needed it. Currently: Partly cloudy, 74.

kenan, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

25 people actually have died in europe so far, jokers.

People have died here too including the neighbors of my in-laws. Lay off.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

fuck like i was serious, sam. take one chill pill. sorry about your in-laws neighbors. was it from the floods?

hstencil, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, it was awhile ago, around memorial day. Washed away when they got out of their stuck car.

You always seem serious, Stence.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

i am very, very, very usually not serious on ilx. tho it is true that i read that 25 people have died in europe due to a heatwave this summer.

i'm said to hear about them. floods suck.

hstencil, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

I am moving and cleaning my old apartment in this hot weather (with humidity at approximately 708%. Way to go Minnesota) It's been awesome (and by awesome i mean "Oh noes! Halp me. I'm melting.")

Cold beer is the pot of gold at the end of my scalding hot rainbow, each and every night.

Caledonia, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

Daer Mr Sun, Please come back.

Pete, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

Last night on the news they interviewed a 103 year old woman at a catholic nursing home who (the report so cleverly pointed out that she remembered at time without air conditioning).

She did, however, say that whoever invented air conditioning should be canonized. I enjoyed that.

Caledonia, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

interesting tidbit from wiki:

"in the United States, the loss of human life in hot spells in summer exceeds that caused by all other weather events combined, including lightning, rain, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes."

kenan, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

loss of life in hot spells, or loss of life due to heat?
lies, damn lies, and statistics!

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

could be.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Heat_Wave

The book that references is one of the most depressing things ever put to paper. The upshot: when you get old, nobody cares about you, and you are found dead days later because you couldn't afford to run your air conditioner and were too afraid of crime to open your windows.

John Justen, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

pbbt. That's TX from April 'till Oct. every year. In fact that 88 sounds right nice.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

How is Minnesota baking, but Chicago has a 10-day calling for sunny and 80 degrees, like, every day? We're through the looking glass here, ppl.

kenan, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

MM, don't forget to figure in humidity of 70-80%.

John Justen, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. Sun is our friend, Timmy, but we must respect his power

gabbneb, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

I find the fact that there's a heat wave anywhere out there difficult to believe. We have not seen a single even vaguely summery day here (Moscow), except in April where we had about ten days in the 90s. (Normally we can have snow as late as May 1, but in summer it is supposed to get warm. Even here.)

mitya, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

DAER MR SUN KINDLY FUCKING COME HERE NOW. WE APPRECIATE YOU.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

xxxxpost
It is the end of the world.

John, like I said, pbbt. That's our average humidity in the summer. Last year we had 30 consecutive days over 100 degrees and humidity over 80. (sorry, Texans do love to boast.)

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

It's okay, MM. Minnesota will get you back this winter.

Caledonia, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

Fine, Texans are lizard people. For normal human types, this shit sucks.

John Justen, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

It sucks in Texas, too, but it's a funny thing... you get used to it. I mean, there's a certain level of heat you'll never get used to, but by and large, it just is. Like when winter rolls in up here, you get that first day below freezing and it's like, "SHIT!" But come February, you're like, "What's the weather. Five degrees? Oh. Ok. *yawn*"

kenan, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

What Kenan says. As much as I hate them I've survived enough summers that it's built into my character. I would die in Minnesota come winter.

One of my fave moments from an ice storm we had in January: News lady reminds viewers that if they must go outside, a hat and gloves can help keep them warm.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

I would die in Minnesota come winter.

Nah. You'd just get used to it.

kenan, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

But I don't even own a hat and gloves!

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

xpost HA!

I remember that ice storm, if it's the same one I'm thinking of. People were aghast and discombobulated that it stayed 25 degrees all day long. The city basically shut down.

kenan, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

It's been in the mid to upper 80s here, which is actually low for this time of year. Yeah, it's hot and gross, but I can hide inside with the glorious AC. One cannot live without AC down here, therefore I sympathize with those without it up North, as I've spent many a summer in a 3rd floor apartment, with fans blaring, and my will to live declining at an alarming rate.
