This movie was the apex of all cinematic achievement when I was 12.

And at that age, no way this was any kind of parent-sponsored viewing. So it also had that taste of the illicit. I think "Revenge of the Nerds" may have been a gateway drug. First I'm looking at naked ladies, then I'm smoking pot in high school, then dropping acid in college... next thing you know, I'm 32 and ridin' the brown, sweet pony called bourbon. And it's all because of the Nerds.

great movie.

Poll: Robert Carradine
• Was never and will never be attractive • Got strangely more attractive after the Nerds movies • Was always kind of a hottie
― kenan, Sunday, 29 July 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)
that's not how you do a poll.
― s1ocki, Sunday, 29 July 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)
It's informal. Roll with it.

I thought Airplane and Nerds were both good but only Nerds held up.

calling jon a nerd is like calling trayce a goth
― marmotwolof, Monday, 30 July 2007 00:59 (eighteen years ago)
no it's not. jon is beyond nerd. trayce just likes to think she is beyond goth.
― kenan, Monday, 30 July 2007 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

― milo z, Monday, 30 July 2007 02:51 (eighteen years ago)
no no no
Porky's is so gross. It's the kind of nastiness that "Nerds" tried to make at least palatable. Like, in the wake of "Animal House," people just went fucking bananas, and Porky's is the WORST example.
― kenan, Monday, 30 July 2007 02:57 (eighteen years ago)
The two greatest slob comedies of all time were Meatballs and Meatballs II.
― moley, Monday, 30 July 2007 03:02 (eighteen years ago)
In what way is that not an argument FOR Porky's, Kenan?
― milo z, Monday, 30 July 2007 03:21 (eighteen years ago)
actually i've never seen porkies, it just reminded me of what kenan said:
no way this was any kind of parent-sponsored viewing. So it also had that taste of the illicit.
of course i was a child then
― sanskrit, Monday, 30 July 2007 03:24 (eighteen years ago)
i'd have to side with booger/ROTN. just to make it official. but i was a young nerd at the time and not a canadian teenager in florida. in the 50s. which was the whole porky's thing.
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Monday, 30 July 2007 07:00 (eighteen years ago)
Bernie Casey was in this. He's in all the good movies. Did he ever get interviewed about his typecast role as "black authority figure"?

# This was the highest-grossing movie from Canada for 24 years. As of October 2006, it is now second highest, having been beaten by Bon Cop, Bad Cop (2006).
also:
*
* This is the first movie to gross over £1 million at the Irish box office, despite having being banned initially and only released after appeal.
― kingfish, Monday, 30 July 2007 07:41 (eighteen years ago)
In October 2006, Bon Cop, Bad Cop appeared to surpass Porky's in nominal box office revenues, but as of the end of its theatrical run, Bon Cop, Bad Cop had not surpassed the inflation-adjusted revenues for Porky's. Taking inflation into account, Porky's has grossed more than twice what Bon Cop, Bad Cop has earned to date. Porky's is also the highest-grossing Canadian film of all time internationally.

i was kind of horrified watching "Revenge..." again and thinking about all the things that would get them sent straight to jail even by today's teen movie standards!
I'm sorry nerds; i feel for you - but the ends do not justify the means!

I am going to try to do this from teenage memory, and then I will Google to see how I did:
Clap your hands everybody And everybody clap your hands We're Lambda Lambda Lambda and Omega Mu
There's Buster Poindexter with the violin And Lewis and Gilbert will be joining in There's Booger Presley with a mean guitar And here's a little old rap from me, Lamar
― Ben Boyerrr, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)
...Pretty badly. Large chunks lost to time. Either way, stone classic.
Clap your hands everybody, and everybody clap your hands. We're Lambda Lambda Lambda and Omega Mu. We come here on stage tonight to do our show for you. We got a rockin rhythm and a hi-tech sound that'll make you move your body down to the ground.
We got Poindexter on the violin and Lewis and Gilbert will be joining in. We got Booger Presley on the mean guitar and a rap by little ol' me Lamar.
We got Takashi beating on his gong, the boys and the mu's are clapping along. And just when you thought, ya seen it all, along comes a Lambda four foot tall. So won't ya come on out here on the floor, so we can move our bodies, like never before.
― Ben Boyerrr, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

"Why? Does she have a penis?"
― Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 25 October 2007 02:15 (eighteen years ago)
This movie had a GREAT soundtrack. Some rapper out there should sample the beat that comes on right after Bernie Casey goes "Hold it coach! You just hold it right there." and all the black guys show up.
Also the "Panty Raid" sequence features the greatest version of the Mission Impossible theme ever.
― Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 25 October 2007 02:18 (eighteen years ago)
having the all black fraternity be called "lambda lambda lambda" took pretty big balls.

Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise: Bradley Whitford! Courtney Thorne-Smith! The conversion of Ogre!
― nabisco, Thursday, 25 October 2007 20:23 (eighteen years ago)
Whitford's progress from lowbrow comedy villain to actor-man has been awesome, and makes me imagine Aaron Sorkin sitting around watching Billy Madison and thinking "he's perfect" (an impression not really subverted by his having Ted McGinley as a senator at some point)

― nabisco, Thursday, 25 October 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)
eugene leavy
― chaki, Thursday, 25 October 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)
Oh wait right
Although Levy doesn't fulfill the "pompous authority figure" angle -- you don't cast him as the crooked toupee-wearing developer who wants to close the ski resort, or the corrupt senator, or anything.
Give it 10 years or so, and Jeremy Piven will start aging into those roles nicely.

The explanation given is that nerds spend more time studying lovemaking techniques etc and the rape-sex was incredible ("I've never......). So, rapists: step up your game on foreplay.

There was a major Fox remake - starring a bunch of anonymous TV youths -that had already started shooting and was shut down a week in, reportedly because Emory University pulled the plug on letting them use the school as a location. Though other sources says the studio saw the first week of shot footage and decided to cut their losses. Either way, thank goodness.
