Ha ha, one of my mates, when someone questioned her drinking (not even that excessive) she slurred in reply "honey, at my age, either you have children, or a drinking problem!"
Most of my friends aren't really drunks, though. Once you hit middle age, it's physically hard to keep on the alcohol on the scale we used to. So we're a lot more sedate.

Non-drunks mostly. But a lot of the people I know have little kids, and thus don't have the opportunity to drink much. (This is a bit ironic, actually, since the people with little kids are very likely to need some drinks...)
