shews

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

(Yes I searched; this hasn't been done unless it's disappeared)

wanko ergo sum, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:57 (seventeen years ago)

shews. yep.

Drooone, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:57 (seventeen years ago)

peanuts=poor man's shews.

Drooone, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:58 (seventeen years ago)

One of the most trying rules of etiquette is 'don't fish all the cashews out of the mixed nuts.'

Abbott, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:58 (seventeen years ago)

'shews too fatty! I can't stand 'em.

wanko ergo sum, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:59 (seventeen years ago)

all other nuts = poor mans shews

in sum, I do not eschew the cashew

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:59 (seventeen years ago)

remember how in Waterworld there was a ship called the dees*?

*I only know this because of Waterworld pinball.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:01 (seventeen years ago)

Definitely cashews, esp really salty roasted ones.

Trayce, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:02 (seventeen years ago)

I also enjoy almonds. salted or unsalted. My gf's oldies always have soaked almonds. Which is weird, but I still like.

Drooone, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:07 (seventeen years ago)

This poll is flawed; ILXors' favorite nuts is chin nuts.

Dan I., Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:18 (seventeen years ago)

I love things that are made out of/flavored with hazelnuts, but I don't much like sitting around eating them. Nutella, tho...NOM NOM NOM

Abbott, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:20 (seventeen years ago)

fucking brazil

Surmounter, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:20 (seventeen years ago)

Is this a comprehensive list of nuts? Are there no exotic nuts, like the chantarelle/truffle of nuts?

I left out acorns.

wanko ergo sum, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:21 (seventeen years ago)

I expected this to be about testicles.

I like them in their shell.

Hard like armour, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:23 (seventeen years ago)

My dad and relatives still call Brazil nuts by this very racist name...I thought that's what they were actually named for a long time & was roundly criticized when I used the term in public at age 10.

Abbott, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:23 (seventeen years ago)

Wow, I thought my Dad was the only person who still used that term for Brazil nuts. I had forgotten all about it until just now, so... thanks?

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:30 (seventeen years ago)

Also, I think almonds get my vote, with macadamia and pistachio close behind. Dark chocolate covered almonds are a recent obsession of mine.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:31 (seventeen years ago)

MACAMADAMIAS!

Drooone, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:33 (seventeen years ago)

Macadamias are hella yum but way too $$$. They're pretty much unique in texture.

Abbott, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:34 (seventeen years ago)

Cashews are so tied with pistachios for me that I can't even vote.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:55 (seventeen years ago)

xpost: yeah, macadamia's are v $$$$.

They grow them in US?

Drooone, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:58 (seventeen years ago)

Whoa, someone actually likes brazil nuts? I always thought they were just cheap filler for *mixed nuts* canisters.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

nothing beats Deez

gershy, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 06:47 (seventeen years ago)

I expected this to be about testicles.

Me too! So I voted Other (Nuts). I only eat nuts if they come with beer, but not those nuts you get in bars because everyone knows they have at least 3 different types of urine in them.

Forgot My Pencil, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago)

Cashews. Though I love most of these.

Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:35 (seventeen years ago)

I can't eat macadamias or brazil nuts, but I like most other nuts. My favorites, though, have to be pistachios.

Michael White, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:47 (seventeen years ago)

My dad and relatives still call Brazil nuts by this very racist name...I thought that's what they were actually named for a long time & was roundly criticized when I used the term in public at age 10.

When i was on the road, we would eat brazil nuts constantly. If someone would see us eating them, they would--without fail--tell us the same story.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

ALSO A PEANUT IS NOT A NUT GUYS THX

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

Although they are the yummiest thing on the list (almonds are second). Which means I don't know what to vote for.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

i can't decide :(

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

If you're talking about eating straight-up nuts, not pecan pie or peanut butter etc., then I guess cashews or really good walnuts.

Jordan, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:56 (seventeen years ago)

check that expiration date man, it's later than you think

get bent, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 14:58 (seventeen years ago)

wait wait sorry racist brazil nuts saywha? is the term "brazil nuts" supposed to be racist, or is there some secret KKK word for brazil nuts that I don't know?

would vote macadamia but the last batch i ate made my throat itchy, so pecan gets it

blueski, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

I'm with Blew Lagoon on the racist brazil nuts. Inquiring minds want to know.

Forgot My Pencil, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 15:28 (seventeen years ago)

ILX System, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

why are honey-roasted almonds so good when honey-roasted peanuts are so bad

bernard snowy, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 23:09 (seventeen years ago)

Where is the hazelnut love? Our local chocolatier makes a hazelnut square that's bittersweet choc layered with a thick hazelnut/choc paste. Oh lordy.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

hazelnuts can't really stand on their own though

bernard snowy, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 23:42 (seventeen years ago)

Marcona almonds are my new favorite (esp with rosemary) but they are very expensive so I don't get them very often. I tried to make some myself with ordinary raw almonds, olive oil and rosemary in a frying pan, but it didn't work out too well.

The racist brazil nut term was "N-word toes" which my father also used once in the 70s. He insisted that's what they were called though he knew "brazil nut" too.

nickn, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 23:59 (seventeen years ago)

Hazelnuts are the best nut to go with chocolate.

nickn, Thursday, 2 August 2007 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

Deez wuz robbed

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 2 August 2007 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

That "Namin' Nuts" thing w/C. Guest is like the best thing ever....I think it's a deleted scene even! "Pea...nut, cashew nut, pistachio nut, RED pistachio nut..." And the best thing abt it is none of them are technically nuts.

Abbott, Thursday, 2 August 2007 00:15 (seventeen years ago)

What are those flat almonds?

Beth Parker, Thursday, 2 August 2007 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

Those might be the Marcona almonds I mentioned. They are smooth (no rough brown skin like many almonds) and have oil on them, enough to be noticeable in a clear plastic bag.

nickn, Thursday, 2 August 2007 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

I love them!

Beth Parker, Thursday, 2 August 2007 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

These results are crazy! Cashews would be way bottom on my list. And yes hazelnuts are great also on their own. Pine nuts not so much, but still fantastic.

anatol_merklich, Thursday, 2 August 2007 10:29 (seventeen years ago)

two months pass...

I just discovered pistachios in the last couple of weeks and NOM NOM NOM NOM.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:16 (seventeen years ago)

If I don't consciously make a decision to stop, I could scarf a whole damn bag of pistachios. Is there any other foodstuff that's so conducive to non-stop eating?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:49 (seventeen years ago)

These soy things: http://www.qnf.com.au/images/d016_sml.jpg

Pistachios and cashews are my DEATH NUTS. Meaning that if I eat any, I go into anaphylactic shock. I'd have to vote for pecans, then.

WTF MAN BRAZILS RULE. Especially coated with yoghurt. If a nut ever deserved to be expunged from the face of the earth it is the walnut.

xtc ep, etc (xp) (ledge), Monday, 8 November 2010 22:22 (fourteen years ago)

it feels like there should be an alternative hierarchy of nuts based on what it's like to eat a whole bunch of them. like walnuts; they really suffer once you've eaten ten or fifteen. and brazils; that chalkiness becomes too much!

the momentum you develop while pistachio-popping would probably work in their favour, with this approach.

your LiveJournal experience (schlump), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

good to see brazil nuts getting the shaft here; worst. nut. ever.

Bollocks. They're great. I don't have a bad word to say about any nuts.

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 12:09 (fourteen years ago)

Also due to their high polyunsaturated fat content, primarily omega-6, shelled Brazil nuts soon become rancid.

As a hater of brazil nuts, I wonder if this may be where my problem is.

kkvgz, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 15:15 (fourteen years ago)

Like, I should find a way to buy them entire.

kkvgz, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

I would have voted for brazil nuts

peter in montreal, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

No votes for hazelnuts either, you people are sick and wrong

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 15:20 (fourteen years ago)

In retrospect, I wish peanuts had won for their versatility.

I've seen your type before: flashy, making the scene, flaunting convention, eating cashews

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

crushed peanuts on ice cream sundaes are a mother fucker.

kkvgz, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

the momentum you develop while pistachio-popping would probably work in their favour, with this approach.

i find that w/pistachios, constantly pulling apart the shell kind of wears on the fingers after a while, which means at least i don't gorge myself on them as much as on cashews

this just seems like a good delay mechanism to me, so they last longer. you get a pleasing rhythm going, chewing while you're cracking.
