Hello ILE - this year it is my proud duty to announce the date of the highlight/lowpoint of the London drinking calendar. Trig Brother 07 will take place on Saturday September 15th. Yes, the real Big Brother will be over by then, but hardly anyone's watching that anyway so who cares?
The chances are most of you know what Trig Brother is by now, but if you don't, it is a Central London pub crawl with evictions, based on the real Big Brother. The evictees get sent back to a central 'home' pub which gets busier and busier as the day continues, and which then hosts the final vote. If you'd like to play, please let us know. Other important points:
- It is not a drinking competition OR a drinking game. At no point will anyone be required to drink alcohol. Teetotallers have historically done very well, possibly due to being, ahem, more mentally alert in the advanced staged.
- It is NOT a popularity contest. I know this because I came last in 2007. Evictions generally take place on your performance in a series of increasingly bizarre tasks as we leave a trail of obscure questions, charity shop CDs and the odd rampantly unfair twist across Zone 1.
- You don't need to be a regular to play. In fact, people have turned up hardly knowing anyone and made it as far as the final. You don't even need to be an ILXer, as Colette's mum proved last year.
- There will be a designated eviction pub that will contain a sizeable number of us throughout the day, increasing as the event progresses. The first few evictees will not be required to sit in a pub on their own. I had a lot of fun in the eviction pub last year and was there pretty much all day.
- The actual game part of the day should only last three hours or so. By the evening the event will become a normal FAP, albeit a nicely lubricated one.
- Whatever you do, don't acidentally let your umbrella go up in the middle of the pub, spilling several drinks in the process. You will only be evicted.
We will be meeting at an as-yet-undecided Central London pub at 2pm. That will serve as the eviction pub as well so if you arrive late there'll always be someone to let you know where the action is.
The Trig Brother team will be updating this thread leaking details to the press throughout the coming weeks. Expect large amounts of fannydangle as usual.

And of course, I actually came last in 2006, not 2007.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 August 2007 12:31 (eighteen years ago)
I shall be playing this year. Memories of Minestrone have surely faded by now...

This year's Trig Brother will be a return to fun after the racism and bullying that blighted Celebrity Trig Brother this year.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 August 2007 12:50 (eighteen years ago)
Do we actually KNOW that the real Big Brother will be over by then!
― Groke, Thursday, 2 August 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)
it will have been cancelled after the "shark jumping" twist next week.
kill me.
― Alan, Thursday, 2 August 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)
I've still never played. (Have I?)
I WANT TO BE EVICTED FIRST!!! It is my dream.
Something will happen AGAIN this year so that I don't get to play. I know it.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 2 August 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)
Ach, I really wanted to play this year, but I think I'm heading off to Montenegro on the 12th. Stupid wedding.
― G00blar, Thursday, 2 August 2007 13:04 (eighteen years ago)
bag the wedding, dude!
― mitya, Thursday, 2 August 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)
Queer pressure
― ken c, Thursday, 2 August 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)
omg did i just dream that?
I'd quite like to play again, see if I can improve on last year's 6th.
― Mark C, Thursday, 2 August 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)
Sorry Ken, I zapped it because it was a private email exchange - nothing to do with the content.
(It was an exchange between me, Anna and Marianna involving the words 'Russell Brand', 'do your hair and make-up', 'peer pressure' and 'harem of girls'.)
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 August 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)
boo to having it at the same time as end of the road...
― CharlieNo4, Thursday, 2 August 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)
i was just thinking the same charlie :(
(i haven't got an end of the road ticket yet, mind you)
― ken c, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)
(you forgot 'lend you my skinny jeans' Matt)
― Anna, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)
I didn't want to put that idea into people's heads.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:10 (eighteen years ago)
Brand was last year. You'll have to be George Galloway, Peaches Geldof and those two chaps presenting BBBM this week.
― blueski, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)
You forgot John McCririck.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)
if i'm going to this i'm going to tell everyone about how i look a bit like baby spice
― ken c, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)
OK, forget it, I'm out. I disapprove of this sort of thing!
(But can you just evict me anyway, to humour me?)
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)
If I come can I be Galloway? I'm an incredibly annoying socialist.
― emil.y, Friday, 3 August 2007 00:28 (eighteen years ago)
Do you have your own embarassing cat outfit or will Trig Brother have to supply one?
― Matt DC, Friday, 3 August 2007 08:03 (eighteen years ago)
Trig Brother would like to remind you all that this takes place THIS SATURDAY. There are still a couple of spaces left so shout if you want to play, especially if you are an girl as a little balance always helps innit.
― Matt DC, Monday, 10 September 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)
come on davina, sort it AAAAAHT!!!
― CarsmileSteve, Monday, 10 September 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)
Trig Brother would like to inform all contestants and spectators that a 'home pub' will be announced on Wednesday morning.
― Matt DC, Monday, 10 September 2007 11:31 (eighteen years ago)
Do you need anymore girls?
I'm a London ILXer now!
― Jill, Monday, 10 September 2007 20:20 (eighteen years ago)
Blimey, since when? And yes, you are now on the list.
― Matt DC, Monday, 10 September 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)
Man, I wish I was back in the UK for this.
― HI DERE, Monday, 10 September 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

Since this weekend! Just looking at the previous threads, maybe signing up for this isn't such a good idea afterall...
hmmm
― Jill, Monday, 10 September 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)
Is there still a space for me?
― Vic Fluro, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 13:46 (eighteen years ago)
Girls! Girls! Daring girls!
I am still up for it. Sgs may come and join the losers pub too.
― Mark C, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)
Tell SGS she should play.
Vic - Yep. Possibly not in the Bad and Wrong capacity I had originally envisaged though. Or indeed the second Bad and Wrong capacity I had envisaged.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)
Vic, if you come you must wear a Roast Beef t-shirt, okay? I will then drunkenly offer you $100 for it, probably.
Jill, give it a whirl!
― Mark C, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)
Sgs has already decided against it, Matt :)
― Mark C, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
i have heard the Bad and Wrong plans and they MUST be acted upon.
― CarsmileSteve, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)
Twins analogy = dressing the same = TWO Roast Beef T-shirts for Mark C.
― Vic Fluro, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)
Oh I thought you were talking about the one about having an all-female pub crawl and then sending you in there to wow them with your charms and wait for a big girlyfite to break out.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)
(NB - this will not happen!)
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)
Hi dere - I can now announce that the start pub for Trig Brother 2007 will be The Fitzroy Tavern on Charlotte Street. Long time FAPpers will know it as the pub where a couple of riotous sten parties took place back in the day. It's here:
http://fancyapint.com/pubs/pub6.html
Meet in the pub at 2pm, with an estimated kick off time of 2.30. All the pubs will be in the Goodge Street/Tottenham Court Road vicinity. The Fitzroy will also serve as the eviction pub, so if you're a spectator turning up late you can be reasonably sure there'll be an increasing number of people there throughout the day.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)
ooh, interesting choice. out of interest, has the home pub always been a sam smiths? i think it has (makes sense in a lot of ways)...
if ppl would like pre-ruin sustenance, i am intending to go to THE NEW PICCADILLY for late breakfast c.12.30, as it really actually is properly closing in a fortnight :(
― CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)
I'm going to be in london on sat sort of!
― RJG, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)
what kind of sort of?
― CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)
Also, this Trig Brother will feature a Secret Special Surprise Guest!
(Not RJG, that wouldn't be much of a secret, or a surprise)
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:39 (eighteen years ago)
E4
― RJG, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 12:08 (eighteen years ago)
don't know what the plan is
if you are in town any time between 2 and 11, come to the fitzroy on charlotte street (kind of parallel to tottenham court road).
― CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 12:31 (eighteen years ago)
or do you mean you don't know what your plan is...
― CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 12:32 (eighteen years ago)
ah, yeah, I don't know if I'll have to do something else. will see if I can make it!
― RJG, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)
Right then - this year's line-up is a great combination of youth and experience. Confirmed guests, unless I'm mistaken:
CarsmileSteve Pete KatieG Jill Vic Fluro Sean off LJ Mark S Mark C The Lex Andrew F Surprise Special Guest
Any more for any more? We could probably do with another player.
― Matt DC, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:33 (eighteen years ago)
Is this the first Trig Brother without an American playing?
― Pete, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:41 (eighteen years ago)
Depends on who the Surprise Special Guest is, doesn't it?
― Matt DC, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)
Graham is not American.
― Pete, Friday, 14 September 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)
The Surprise Special Guest will probably be more talkative than Graham.
― Matt DC, Friday, 14 September 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)
Ugh. RUIN. This year's involved much fannydangle, surprise karaoke at the end and a contestant being THROWN OUT for the first time. And regrettably not for being racist/sexist/indiest.
A good time had by all by the looks of things (even those who somehow managed to do less well than a stuffed rabbit) and there was a worthy winner at the end. Order of evictions for those who weren't there:
12th - Pete 11th - The Lex (later reinstated) 10th - Terri Hutcher 9th - Robster 8th - Mark S 7th - Jel 6th - Sarah (The Lex now reinstated by public vote) 5th - Mark C 4th - CarsmileSteve 3rd - Jill (evicted then reinstated after The Lex was refused entry to the pub) 2nd - Al WINNER - Katie G
If would care to post up some of Jay-Z's problems, scans of Filthy Enid or video footage of The Lex reciting a poem, that would be lovely.

The Lex proceeds to trash the most innocent looking pub in the world. That poor pub, being subjected to us, so late in the crawl.

Finalists await the verdict.
I have no idea what is being sung here.
Although I have a horrible feeling this is Welcome To The Black Parade. The legendary Paranoid Android rendition now has a rival in the pantheon of karaoke horror.

It was good fun, sorry didn't hang around 'til the end. See you next year, or maybe before, you never know.
