OMG Potato Reboundace is a seed!!! No. 30!
― Mark C, Monday, 27 August 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)
the boy murray looking good against unknown uruguayan. have to see how his wrist holds out over this tournament. should be his breakthrough tournament this one but I'd be surprised if he gets further than the fourth round based on how much competition play he's had in the last six months.
― Uptoeleven, Monday, 27 August 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)
mark, do you play much? i'm gonna be desirous of a london-based someone to knock with so I can keep playing as the nights draw in. have managed to recapture some of the form of my youth this summer and do't want to lose it again.
― Uptoeleven, Monday, 27 August 2007 19:21 (eighteen years ago)
Nick, I don't I'm afraid. I like playing, a lot, but I almost never get round to organising things and I don't get asked along to a lot of games either! But, there are several London-based ILXors who you could try and get together if you're interested, me included.
― Mark C, Monday, 27 August 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)
Like to see Djokovic winning a slam.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 27 August 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)
Excited! I was in Flushing this weekend.
― Michael F Gill, Monday, 27 August 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)
Bump! I haven't yet checked the final results for yesterday but I know others will precis them in far more entertaining style :)
― Mark C, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 11:12 (eighteen years ago)
Notice Paul Coupe de Ville has scuttled Schuettler, but Rodge (who he plays next) will soon put him back in the crackerjack box. Meanwhile, Paul Henry Matthews, JCF and Nemo, all seeded in the 20s, are all homeward bound, along with one-time FOAT (Future Of Australian Tennis) Chris Guccione.
John Isner, the Floridian who beat Nemo, is listed as six feet nine and 16 stone. Next up he meets Sith Effrican Rik de Voest ("De Voest Player In De Voeld").
― Fred Nerk, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)
Baggy also seems to end up in long winded matches in slams lately. I suspect some gray hairs soon. Good to see Blake and Cake moving on. I wonder if Hingis can make a run.
Also, anyone have some links to viewing other matches online? Sometimes US TV isn't showing a match I want to see.
― Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 23:29 (eighteen years ago)
Hi dere. I am watching this but I have no internet at home :( so please keep up the witty for me.
― edwardo, Thursday, 30 August 2007 02:13 (eighteen years ago)
where's the lex?
The rookie John Isner has been making a buzz on the men's side.
― Michael F Gill, Thursday, 30 August 2007 03:01 (eighteen years ago)
He's probably in his room listening to indie as usual.
― edwardo, Thursday, 30 August 2007 05:37 (eighteen years ago)
Actually, he's probably drunk innit.

Marat Safin lol "Who cares? It's so far in the past. It's already history. It's a long time ago. It's time to move on." Marat Safin is asked to reflect on his US Open victory in 2000. "Who cares? I will not care. I will be doing something else in my life and hopefully I will be happy." Marat Safin is asked to look ahead and guess at what his legacy to tennis will be.

Marat Sad
― gabbneb, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)
Sania Mirza from India has been playing some good tennis lately, I think she could make a run with her power.
I would have liked to see what would of happened in the Gasquet/Young match if it wasn't for Gasquet's "viral infection".
― Michael F Gill, Friday, 31 August 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)
Some great five setters today and yesterday, especially Djokovic/Stepanek and the Blake match from last night.
Safin out in straight sets, and Serena [if she wins] vs. Bartoli looks like a good 4th round matchup.
― Michael F Gill, Friday, 31 August 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)
Also Safin was wearing a MIA shirt for his interview afterwards. Really hope it wasn't some obscure sponsor.
― Michael F Gill, Friday, 31 August 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)
Radwanska's looking really good (and fearless) against Sharapova so far, just saved 4 break points to go up 4-3.
― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 1 September 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)
And Radwanska takes the first set! She's been taunting Sharapova so much on the second serve, Maria has doubled four times.
― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)
Sharapova the 20 year old grizzled veteran
― The Macallan 18 Year, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)
commentator: "maria needs to think on the court, not just use her power" other commentator: "what an incredibly astute remark"
― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)
whay ia everyone wearing the same outfit today
― jhøshea, Saturday, 1 September 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)
Radwanska! She was so intimidating to Sharapova on her second serve, and she kept forcing errors. I'm a new fan.
Also got a good look at the giant Isner and hot-headed Donald Young yesterday. For Americans, I like them better than Roddick already.
― Michael F Gill, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)
Isner's height is insane. If he can channel that into a consistent serve, he will be very successful. Radwanska was staying very low to hit her shots and as a result of is looking like the next big thing.
― humansuit, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)
Isner looks like a basketball center! He needs to work a bit more on his backcourt game, but I think he can very quickly move up in the rankings. He's already had 4 years of experience through college.
Bartoli looked a bit weary out there in her loss today, I think she just needs some time to refresh.
― Michael F Gill, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)
How hurt is Nadal? It looks like he's being blasted off the court (3-2 Tsonga in the first), but maybe it's the injury slowing Nadal.
― wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)
What about Isner learning to be a classic serve-and-volley guy? Sweet to imagine Edberg coaching him (one of my favorites). x
I heard he was pretty hurt.
― humansuit, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)
To be fair, Isner was playing the best player of this generation, so he is probably even better than he looked yesterday.
― Michael F Gill, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)
OK so Nadal seems to be coping.
― wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 2 September 2007 19:17 (eighteen years ago)
Ginepri/Wawrinka is going to a 5th set, great match so far.
Henin is cruising against Safina, she just bageled her in the first set.
― Michael F Gill, Sunday, 2 September 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)
the Blake/Haas match yesterday was tops
― The Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)
it was the bees knees
cats pajamas
etc
― The Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)
Christ, how easy has Roddick had it so far? Two retirements (well, three if you count Gimelstob shuffling out of tennis post-match) and only token resistance from ToJo (who, lest we forget, beat Roddick here three years ago). I expect he was injured too. Next it's Fed, who's dropped a couple of sets and (I assume) is fumbling about in third gear. Crush him, Rog.
― Michael Jones, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)
Is there a name more fun to say than Anna Chakvetadze?
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 00:41 (eighteen years ago)
haha rog looked vaguely vulnerable in the first set last night--i was watching him for frustration but there was none--and then he proceeded to destroy the dude. plus bonus points for the (american) announcers talking about how after wimbledon he invites players to dubai to spar with him in 115° F heat and crushes them all like 'game of death'...
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)
Kirsten Flipkens. Flipkens flipkens flipkens flipkens flipkens.
― anatol_merklich, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:28 (eighteen years ago)
Well, crushing did not occur but Roger is through anyway. Roddick didn't face a single break point in the first two sets but Fed edged both breakers before running away with the 3rd 6-2. Venus beat Jankovic in a third-set t/b (Justine having straight-setted Serena the night before).
Ah, in the old days, those three matches would've been worth about 100 messages each....
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 6 September 2007 05:53 (eighteen years ago)
Sorry Mike but it all happens midnight to dawn Oz time, which is not ideal. Besides that, there hasn't been a major headline so far to keep the event under my nose.
(I'm guessing the dreaded Hewitt is no longer an on-going concern?)
― Fred Nerk, Thursday, 6 September 2007 06:50 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, I know, Fred - all the night session matches are midnight to dawn UK time too; the US Open threads have always been a bit lighter in traffic than the others. I don't know where Lex has got to...
Lleyts llost to Agustin Calleri in four sets in r2; Calleri lost to Monaco who lost to Djokovic who might well win the whole thing, so Hewey was that close to another Slam. Never mind, eh?
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 6 September 2007 08:28 (eighteen years ago)
This was quite a good US Open thread - but with a half-terrible outcome.
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 6 September 2007 08:32 (eighteen years ago)
Henin hasn't dropped a set yet going into the final.
― Michael F Gill, Friday, 7 September 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)
I hate her. She has dead fish eyes.
― Beth Parker, Friday, 7 September 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)
SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT Kuznetsova must crush her.
― Beth Parker, Friday, 7 September 2007 22:42 (eighteen years ago)
shit shes really pwning - has not dropped a set!
― jhøshea, Friday, 7 September 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)
too bad i like venus
― jhøshea, Friday, 7 September 2007 22:44 (eighteen years ago)
Allez Peppermint Patty
― gabbneb, Friday, 7 September 2007 22:54 (eighteen years ago)
I like Justine! Although I did want Chakvetadze to pull the upset tournament win.
― Michael F Gill, Friday, 7 September 2007 23:27 (eighteen years ago)
C'mon Henin! Really delighted with her semi-final win. She won the French without dropping a set didn't she?
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)
WHEN IS THE MEN'S FINAL?? usopen.org says "1:00" which I presume is Eastern time, but on TV they're showing women's doubles.
― wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 9 September 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)
oic, men's singles is after women's doubles, but not before 4:30.
― wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 9 September 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)
thanks
― gabbneb, Sunday, 9 September 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)
OK FUCK YOU CORNFED MEN IN TIGHTS, WHERE IS MY STYLISH CATGUT-SWINGER FROM HEIDILAND?
― gabbneb, Sunday, 9 September 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)
IN-JOKE gives away 5 set points and the first set!
― wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)
For a second there I was considering popcorn.
― wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)
I am up early (in aus) and watching this live for once.
oh novak. Dude just gave away another set point. Tie-break!
― Roz, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)
Federer just has that *superhuman* gear he goes into whenever he's facing set points.
― Michael F Gill, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)
I hope can stay competitive. First 2 sets were more a testament to Fed's brilliance than Djok's choke. XP
― wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)
And it's over.
